Stryd S+ app
-
UPD by moderator: There is now a dedicated S+ app for Stryd

Stryd info - https://blog.stryd.com/2024/02/20/suunto-update-2024/I’ve heard about and seen screenshots of a Stryd S+ app but I can’t find it in the store. I guess it has not been released yet and maybe it’ll be out same time as next-gen stryd pod?
-
@taziden it has not been released yet.
-
I saw it once and used it, it showed all data you would normally see on stryd website but with delay. New next gen stryd shows much better response time than old stryd for trail runners. It actually reacts faster than my HR now.

I was excited about this, but I don’t see how the STRYD app with Suunto will fix all of the dropouts. It’s so bad that STRYD made an article on their website addressing this problem with Suunto watches. As a result of this issue I don’t trust any of the data that I’m seeing with this combination. However when I compare this to Garmin there’s not a single dropout in connection…like never. So if there’s going to be a STRYD app with Suunto, something tells me it won’t be compatible with any device except the new Peak Pro since dropouts are not being reported with that particular device when connected with STRYD.
-
@TyreseJ4 the app works with all the other watches for what I know.
-
@isazi Interesting. Maybe the dropouts will be fixed? I guess we’ll see.
-
Dropouts like these?
-
@lexterm77 Yep! Except mine drops out way more. What device are you using?
-
@TyreseJ4 I do not have drop outs. Would be interesting in knowing which arm has the watch. Which foot for Stryd and which Stryd.
-
I got stryd model 26 firmware 2.1.29 and s9pp with 2.22.60, and suunto smart belt. S+ burner app. When i make a pause i get tons of dropouts, when no pause i get a few. Sometimes none. I pass under several 0.7 million volts power lines about 30 meters above my head.
Edit: stryd on right foot, watch on left arm.
I had dropouts since s9b, used foot stryd and foot stryd wind devices. I lost wind device replaced with a new one, still dropping, also used suunto 9p, s5p, s5. Droputs not visible on SA or runalyze, only stryd web site. -
@lexterm77 Yeah that’s what I mean. The dropouts only show in the STRYD app.
-
@Brad_Olwin I use my watch on left arm and STRYD on left foot. Btw, here’s an article from STRYD in reference to this issue: https://support.stryd.com/hc/en-us/articles/360044464113-Stryd-power-drops-when-running-with-Suunto-watches They say Suunto is to blame. And when you compare results from Suunto and STRYD’s offline sync, it appears they are correct with their assessment.
-
I have also some dropouts on my power curve on Stryd app
Those are not big ones so I guess it doesn’t bias too much the analysis of the run. It is just not aesthetic
What would be the purpose of the S+ Stryd app ? Display Stryd metrics and zone using Suunto native power or Stryd one if coupled ?
-
@v-sacre the Stryd+ app has all Stryd metrics in one dedicated screen, like ground contact, vertical oscillation, power, etc
-
Not sure how the final S+ STRYD app will work, but it seems to me like those STRYD metrics are not something I look forward to visualizing during the workout, rather only for post analysis. To me, STRYD structured workouts are something I’ll be more hype to have on my watch and they have plenty
-
I would very much like running economy on s+ app than ground contact time, springiness of my steps etc.
thats what I used to use in MC on A3P.RE [kg/N] = Speed [m/s] / Power [W/kg]
Now that error bars are much lower on stryd it would actually mean something. I would also like vector components for vertical forward and lateral forces separated.
-
@lexterm77 I’ve seen that metric on runs synced to Runalyze, they also have the efficiency index EI = Speed [m/min] / Power [W].
I like those for post analysis and tracking the value trend over time, not sure how useful they’re on the fly run I’m surviving my next 5K
Let’s see how things are implemented, but as stated, hope STRYD structured workouts do come to Suunto one day.
-
I want RE during the run, not after. During a warmup at flat constant power. Then RE it would tell me if I should take a longer run or take it easy and do recovery run.
-
@lexterm77 that’s cool. Stryd doesn’t currently have such metric, hopefully there’ll be a end-user S+ editor of sorts
-
@herlas so the official S+ Stryd app will not have metrics that Stryd doesn’t have, but Speed/Power is already possible to compute right now. I can test the idea and tell Suunto there is some interest in this.
