Suunto 9 Peak Pro?

@zhang965 if I understand correctly, s9pp doesn’t have the hardware for it.

Suunto 9 Peak Pro GPS Accuracy & the new GPS Chip
Suunto’s new GPS chip is one of the latest generation multi-constellation chips from Sony. Suunto will not enable its multi-band/multi frequency capability and there is only one mode of operation which simultaneously looks at all available satellite systems (GPS+QZSS, GALILEO, BEIDOU & GLONASS) potentially enabling the 9 Peak Pro to use 32 satellites simultaneously.
-
@DMytro At least one review discussed this and concluded that while the chipset would actually allow dual freq GPS, the size of the watch is not suitable for it. What we got instead in the S9PP is the ability to connect to multiple satellite systems (GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, BEIDOU) at the same time.
-
I preordered it also, All Black. I have S9P but that was a small incremental update over S9B. I wish S9PP was the next iteration after S9B, it would look like a serious upgrade.
just a few questions for S9PP
- multiple S+ at the same time?
- HR zones on navigation screen?
- SpO2 finally works well?(it is useless one S9P)
- Daily constant HR measurements or 20min intervals?
- SpO2 during activity? (I know user has to be still when measuring, but I’m just hoping)
- Resources finally work well?
- Any polar-like measurements like resting HR, fitness test or similar?
-
As mentioned in previous post, is RHR for resources calculation measured by watch or is input from user? In the past there were some difficulties with resources due to FB algorithm. Was this addressed with new software and hardware?
-
@MoeJito whats the advantage? dual is as far as I know only for very few special situations. Under rocks… when you have gps Access S9P is super accurate! S9PP will be even better.
-
@herlas Isn’t the new Stryd already available?
-
@TyreseJ4 Never mind, I’d see the website says they won’t be shipping until November.

Not now, under discussion at Suunto. Could be possible with new hardware.
- HR zones on navigation screen?
Navigation screen(s) will be probably updated, not there yet though. I actually hope also previous models will get the updated screen(s).
- SpO2 finally works well?(it is useless one S9P)
Not sure, for me the S9P works well.
- Daily constant HR measurements or 20min intervals?
Intervals, but this is a software thing that can change. I think also for S9P (stay tuned).
- SpO2 during activity? (I know user has to be still when measuring, but I’m just hoping)
No.
- Resources finally work well?
I honestly do not think the algorithm changed, it’s still the Firstbeat one.
- Any polar-like measurements like resting HR, fitness test or similar?
Fitness tests are available with S+ apps, also for older devices.

@zhang965 not for S9PP, as I understand well it needs two antennas which meens bigger watch. Maybe dual for S9PPP
-
@nseslija it does not need two antennas, and it is not a matter of size (Garmin has it on the Fenix 7s).
-
@isazi Hm, Joaquin sad it is because of the size of the watch and antenna thing…
https://youtu.be/HpzS5wUgaR4
But it doesn’t matter, I am waiting for a bigger device from Suunto. -
@nseslija if Garmin can do it on a small watch, with a single antenna, then Suunto can also do it. I also heard many saying that dual frequency is better because you see “twice the amount of satellites”, that is also wrong. I think it was just a design decision, maybe related to battery life (dual frequency will hurt small devices with small batteries more), or time to market, or the maturity of Sony’s dual frequency chipsets.
-
@isazi Thanks for detailed reply
I’m keeping fingers crossed for new updates

It would be very nice to be able to add S+ screens directly in our personnalized sport modes !
I see S9PP as an awesome watch upgrade ! It as everything needed, no more, no less (I don’t want/need maps on my watch !). Reliability, robustness, durabily, usefull features, easy to use : all I expect from Suunto !
(Guess I just have to wait for a larger version to replace my S9B that works juste fine (can’t get used to S9peak display - too small for me so far)…plus I have a huge 24mm bracelets collection to use !!)
-
@isazi I really don’t know about Garmin, I read it somewhere…
I can see on their site that Fenix 7x has multi-frequency positioning and 7s doesn’t has. -
@nseslija for F7 and F7S, dual frequency is only available in the sapphire versions.
-
@isazi Suuntos single frequency much better than Garmins single frequency. So why should Suunto do it… more accuracy almost impossible that means that the benefit for Suunto is way less than Garmin because Suunto basic single frequency accuracy best.
-
@isazi so still no fix for resources bug when you do an walk activity. (Walking the dog) in the morning the resources drops to 0 or close to 0
-
@helgonet12 what’s the pb? you can walk your dog at the night i’m right?
