Suunto 9 Peak Pro?
-
@ink357 I used an Epix 2 for 6 months and I am not convinced maps are needed. Not sure how useful maps are on a watch. BTW, I use maps a lot. Yes the competition has maps so Suunto needs them but from my experience they are less useful than I anticipated.

I hope I’m wrong, but I see this S9PP, as an evolution of the S9P, so “just” more battery, updated Sony Chipset and updated SW with bugfixes and some improvements, that hopefully will also be available for the rest of S line.

@Brad_Olwin i like to lose myself in the wood
To explore the way i don’t know i can use my phone (when there is 4 or 3g). But i think it would be cool to do that with my watch. And livetrack will secure my wife -
@ink357 I have my maps on my phone offline, most of my exercise is out of cell phone range so incident detection and route sharing are of no use. I do understand why these are useful to others but maps on the tiny screen are less useful than I expected, I still mostly use the phone.

@Brad_Olwin
I used maps on my garmin 60csx maps back in the days and found that screen already too tiny… in recent surveys, I’ve mentioned that a zoom and schematic of the specific intersection (with as many arms as it has) would be helpful. the one we need to take would be highlighted… -
Here is my bet:this will be a Suunto 9 peak with 50mm diameter, 24mm band, same electronics as regular S9P, a larger battery, perapshs a slightly better screen, a couple of additional firmware features. Will be priced 150$/€ more than the ‘old S9B’ and 50$/€ more then regular S9P. And this is a good marketing move from suunto to effortlessly keep the average selling price of its product portfolio as higher as they can.
If my bet is correct I will probably by one
Just to support the company. If they add a couple of missing smart features in the mix I will buy one for sure. -
@Brad_Olwin SA app with heatmaps is so great. Also the fast and easy way to build a route. Would be nice if watch tells SA position and used track during activity. So you could see where you are in App. Do not need map on watch.
-
@fluca On the websites that the links above lead to there is also a list of specs that show the size of the new watch matching that of the S9p.

@Brad_Olwin I bought the fenix7x ss and during the summer vacation I used the maps alot on the watch. As you mentioned in another tread creating a rout on Garmin is a pain. But the map functionality on the watch has been at least for me very useful. I biked, hiked and did a couple of runs. Since the terrain is all new to me it was great to quickly look on the maps on the watch and take another trail or direction just because I wanted to. Before I always pulled up my phone and used maps on it. But to honest it goes so much quicker on the watch. Especially now when they have implemented touch screen. But I really miss the maps and crating routes on Suunto app and syncing it to the watch. So smoothly and easy to craft a rout and sync it to the watch. Suunto is by far the best out there in this area. I Would love to have the maps on a Suunto watch. And a bigger size than the Suunto 9 peak. It was just too small for me.

You nailed this! I would also like the watch to be able to route based on location…but don’t need a map. Totally agree.

It could be a new GPS chip with better efficiency. 25 h —> 40 h. Or even dual frequency for better accuracy.
Oh my god, please don’t lower the accuracy for longer using time.
-
@Brad_Olwin Imho it’s not about maps per se, it’s about crossings.
-
@fluca if you look at the photos closely,. you’ll see that the band is 22mm, also you can see a couple of new things on the back. Bigger screen is my expectation also tbh.
-
@DMytro so it could be a 45-47mm watch from suunto with a thinner bezel?
A 24mm band with a 50mm case would look disproportionate to me. Garmins’ has 26mm bands in larger watches. -
@fluca ¯_(ツ)_/¯
We’ll see soon enough, I’m just working with information from renders. Imho 22mm bands are nice because there are plenty 3d party ones. Btw on the same Mediamarkt page, if you scroll through the colours, you can see new watchbands about to be introduced. Some of them look a tad weird XD -

Does anyone know if nylon strap for green pro version is suitable for running or other sport activities with lots of sweat and showering or more like for work and everyday activities? On Suunto website nylon straps are available but not for 9 peak.
-
@dulko79
I’ve got the X-Alps nylon strap and found it too rough for my activities and it does not dry as fast as I would like to.
I’m using silicone strap since. -
@freeheeler does it seem same material if you look at the leaked picture?
-
@dulko79
there’s a lot unknown, as it is a leak only. it looks similar, but material compositions can vary a lot without optical differences.
we might know more maybe in a couple of weeks?
