Training Plan from 3rd app that can be imported to Suunto 7
-
Hi,
I am looking for a training plan that can be imported to Suunto 7 (as I understand the Suunto app does not support Plan creation).
In more details, I want to insert the date of the race (half marathon), and my preferred pace, and the app will create a training plan for this race.
I know there are some apps that can create this plan but I don’t sure if I can import it to Suunto 7.
Thanks

@fribroon For the Suunto 7 you will need to find a third party solution likely based on WearOS.
I will add a personal not that this is not a good way to train. We are each individuals. Althoug simply following a fixed training plan will likely allow you to reach your goal, it will not allow you to maximize your potential. -
@Brad_Olwin could you please give us a few more details? I read some of your old posts about training plans; what would you recommend now? For me as a beginner, training plans are great way to keep motivation strong, what else is there to discover?

Get a good book on training, mine are ultramarathon-based so won’t be of much use for you. I am not saying training plans are useless but designing your own plan is best. For example get a book on training for the distance your are interested in or go online for understanding what the plan will do for you. Then download a few plans, I think there are a lot out there. See where your strengths and weaknesses are: For example are you strong with intervals but endurance weak or vice versa. I would initially train my weaknesses and then move toward working on training more specific for my event.
You could try an AI-based training, Humango is an example as that would at least tailor to your individual statistics and recovery. As for the Suunto 7 I would try to purchase a newer Suunto watch that is not WearOS based as that will allow you to import plans.

There’s so much at your fingertips today, back when I was starting out I had to go out and hunt for books! I’m along the same lines of thinking as Brad. I’m an older athlete with 20+ years in my legs, but back when I was starting out I remember reading a lot of books. From this I pulled the ideas that I either liked or made sense to me and tried them - over time lots of different training methods rather than just one or two. You eventually start to get a grasp and a feel on how your body responds to the different training and stimuli and how you are recovering and progressing; over the years and decades I’ve taken the best bits of various approaches and tailored them to my needs and what my body responds best to
FWIW I have followed guides and training plans in the past for half and full marathons, but the results were usually mixed. The downside is that they’re ultimately just generic plans in which everybody is going to respond differently to. Maybe do some research into who some of the top or accomplished people are in your sport and do some digging into what works for them, then trial and error it until you start to get a feel of what’s working or not working. Again as Brad mentioned AI could be another good option, my training partner used ChatGPT to write him a training program for a 50km that we both recently raced and that worked well for him
