Vertical Map fantasies
-
If Suunto decides to put more information in the maps, I hope they give us the option to deactivate it so as not to have an overloaded and poorly readable map (like Garmin’s)
-
Generally I am happy with these maps, but my minimalist need/fantasy would be:
- linear scale,
- a preview of the current time,
- update map details once in a while.
-
@Ars-Vitae yeah current time is important
-
@Luis-Andés-Olmedo
The possibility to activate / deactivate would be great -
@MiniForklift it would be wonderful if we could choose which data to display with maps.
I do see the upside of just having the map with nothing to get in the way, but on the other hand having to change screens during a trail run has put me in a few face down on the ground situations -
@Egika at the moment I wrote it I didn’t have in mind the possibility to choose, chhosing is definitely much better than having fixed data
-
@Mff73 great idea

Having two fields over the map (i.e. time and distance) is a big help when running in technical trails…

I posted this on another topic but I will repost here as it is relevant to the OP’s question, I think it would be good if we were able to pause an activity when you are on the map screen. Quite a few times I’ve come to a stop and gone to pause it with the middle button before realising that you can’t do this, so then you have to scroll through a couple of screens before you can pause it
I have got a little better at remembering to cycle through the screens in advance if I know I’m soon going to be stopping, but would be nice to at least have the option to set the middle button to be a ‘Pause’ for those that wanted to

BTW do you need to calibrate compass very often? I’m not sure if it is after every sync or when I activate a gpx route….
Nevertheless whatever the reason it’s annoying -
@peegee After charging for sure, when starting navigation sometimes.
The question is what is more annoying:
The rather quick calibration or a misleading compass… -
@peegee My compass needs calibrating regularly, but also seems to calibrate quickly. On the 9 Baro it took ages to calibrate. So for me not much of an issue.
-
I really would love to have labels on maps but as a layer that could be activated/disactivated, as said on previous posts, and ability to display one or two metrics (time/distance…)
On other “fantasies” that should be under dev would be to have some king of “OTA” updates of maps corrections from OSM.

@Tieutieu your other fantasy might just become true:

@Egika great ! What else to say ! Guess my mind was synchronised with release time !!!…should I think harder to other things ??!

@Luis-Andés-Olmedo agree as well. I’d like to have the ability to get a datafield or two, but not at the expense of readability.
Edit: with regards to readability, I think the main issue would be adding too much detail to the existing maps. If Suunto goes down this route, the extra detail should be optional.
