Notification sounds should be separated from general sound settings
-
Here’s my next problem with using the Race 24/7.
I use phone notifications because I wear this device 24/7 to track HR and activity…
In everyday life, like in the office or on the couch, I of course want my notification to be subtle. Not loud for everyone to enjoy - after all that is the reason for having it on my wrist.
Sadly, the Race will make very load sounds every time something happens on my phone. This is of course something I do NOT want. If I wanted this, I would not silence my phone in the first place…
Now, on the Race there is absolutely no way to silence notifications without silencing EVERYTHING, every sound in trainings.
But of course I want to get sound when auto lap happens or targets are alerted or navigation hints pop up on the Race…
Support has no answer. It’s either ALL sounds on or ALL sounds off.
I propose that notifications should have a separate setting to whether they are silent or not.

I have same problem, however I silence apps by turning on summary notifications on iOS instead of immediate ones. But I would also like level of notifications for outdoor vs meeting profile, time based or manual switch.

@Olaf-Gottschalk
you are discovering lots of old good issues and feature requests, there are other threads to ask for more customizations
i will not point you to a too old thread about this, not to frighten you -
Race is near perfect, if maps are possible surely this would make such a big improvement.

@Mff73 yeah, there are plenty of them, unfortunately.
But, but, but… We have a brand new “Control panel” widget with the ability to pin one widget and a quick action to the button, so maybe in the next 5 years or so we’ll have more

Are you sure you can only pin one widget? As of right now I have six widgets pinned on my SV
EDIT: I may have slightly misread your question and I may know what you are talking about, apologies for that. I have the flashlight pinned which I can access with the top right button so I assume this might be what you are referring to? The bottom button gives me access to all of the others that I have chosen to pin

@Olaf-Gottschalk Yep. Sometimes it makes me wonder if those who develop the watch actually wear them. And I appreciate there is for sure a feedback from the testers.
-
@MiniForklift yeah, the customization options are currently:
- Pin a shortcut function (like DND or flashlight) to top button
- Pin a shortcut function to bottom button (only on Race)
- Pin a widget to middle button
- enable/disable widgets in the list when scrolling downward
- sort the widget list when scrolling down
-
@lexterm77 on Android there is nothing you can do. I allow only a very small amount of Apps to actually notify me on the Race, like WhatsApp, Mail and phone calls.
It’s a pain I have to silence everything all together in order to not annoy either my colleagues or my gf at home with loud noises…So, I turned sound off.
Now I am missing sound during an activity to notify me about turns, targets, etc…:(

@vjakub this is exactly what I think all the time! Thanks for not letting me think I am weird…
If I were responsible for this device (or others) - on the first day at home or in a public place, I would immediately feel ashamed of annoying everybody around me when having a longish WhatsApp conversation due to constant beeping.
The next work day, I would separate notification sound settings from exercise sound settings…

I understand why you think that. But I also think that Suunto devs have to do what their boss (or „product owner“ or …) wants them to do. I would add it to the back log next day and lobby for that change.

@Mauerwegler absolutely correct. That’s the “normal” agile way to do things.
I just advocate for everyone in a team to use his/her power to participate. Devs who just do “what they are told” are dangerous to any company. They are the ones with the power to change.
Of course you’re absolutely right though that a product owner should notice how ridiculous beeping sounds for smartphone notifications are on a watch as the smartphone itself can easily do noises if a user wants that… -

Thanks @Egika Hopefully that second one comes to the SV at some point
