Sleep tracking
-
I noticed that sleep monitoring does not define the hours of sleep, that’s why I ask.
Does the watch know when I’m asleep regardless to " Do Not Disturb " setings
I set DND from 22:00 to 05:00 so what happens with that day I slept in the afternoon because I was awake all night.
Is the sleep analysis data for 24 hours or less?
Thanks for the help -
@Danny-poleg DND schedule is not connected to sleep tracking. I don’t have Race but somewhere there should be settings for resting HR and/or minimum HR. Those tresholds and watch movement are being used to determine if you’re awake or asleep.
-
@BrunoH Thanks - I’m just trying to understand the sleep analysis that the watch or app does

I noticed that short interruptions (going to the toilet) end the sleep duration. Even if you continue to sleep for another 1.5 hours afterwards. the 1.5 hours are no longer counted… Maybe it was because I previously pressed the crown to see the time?
-
@Sascha-Domres if so (haven’t tested) it is the opposite of what is written in the manual.
-
@Sascha-Domres for me this is working well.
Went up this night to fix a drainage pipe around the house and went back to bed but could not fall asleep right away.
this is what Race recorded:

@Egika 1.5 hours are no longer counted… Maybe it was because I previously pressed the crown to see the time? I got up at 7 a.m
-
@Marius-Jacobsen-Eggerud yes, I have to watch. Maybe the race would have continued counting if I hadn’t checked the time at 5:30 am. But that shouldn’t really be a problem… in any case, my sleeping times are completely wrong today…
-
@Sascha-Domres sleep tracking should be independent of checking the time.
I have had day where actually after checking the sleep stats at 5am, the watch went on registering me continue to sleep until 6.Some guessing here:
Could it be that you synced the watch to the app between 5:30 and 7:00? So the data got written into the app? -
@Egika Thanks for the tip. That could be the case… my iPhone is also in the bedroom and wasn’t in airplane mode… but that would also mean that I initiated the synchronization by checking the time and going to the toilet…?!
-
@Sascha-Domres you may try to raise your resting HR setting a bit. I observed, that for me raising the HR value makes awake times be more precise (although from a certain point on, the fall asleep times change to the worse then)

@ChrisA thank you i keep it in mind…

I am just trying to get this “rest HR” to be confirmed from Suunto kind of officially.
Right now we are just suspecting that is has an influence on sleep tracking quality. Theoretically, it could well be HRV that does the sleep tracking trick (as you know earlier times Suunto T6 came out detecting your respiration rate calculated from HRV).
Anyway, currently waiting for confirmation and some insights from the devs… -
@Egika Thanks for reaching out to Suunto. In the meantime I keep on speculating. I slept 13 nights with the Race, only in two nights my sleep wasn’t terrible fragmented (according to Oura). And also only in these two nights my HRV was within its normal range (according to Oura). And in those two nights the sleep tracking of the Race was spot on. In the other nights the Race reported way too much awake times. So HRV could play a role. Ok, this is not a very scientific test
Maybe Suunto could publish a blog entry about their new sleep tracking? I think that would be beneficial for everyone and would end the guesswork.

@Egika would be interesting! Thanks!

Confirmed officially from Suunto:
The Resting HR set in personal settings has no influence on Resource and Sleep trackingWe were hunting some Voodoo effect here 🤪

@Egika I actually tested this and for me both were not working correctly if I set the resting HR in the watch to my lowest nightly HR. I will try it tonight with the Race ( have not tested it with the Race actually )
And many thanks for asking

Is it valid only for SR or also for SV S9PP etc? I ask this because I have the same problem as @ChrisA on my S9PP
