@isazi Is the gps module the same in the two watches? What is this update?
-
@isazi what an update for GPS? The Battery Modes in Vertical āCustomā will be on the Vertical after the GPS Update?! What exactly are changes while the Vertical will got an GPS update? GPS ist the best in the Vertical
-
@GiPFELKiND the GPS chip in there is built by third party. It has itās own firmware.
This will sometimes be updated as well. Even if it the best, it still can be improved, for example to make re-acquisition of the signal faster after exiting a tunnel or so. -
@GiPFELKiND I got the black steel, mainly for the looks of the all black body, but also because for my purposes the weight doesnāt really matter. I never run longer than 90 minutes and for hiking itās no problem. In martial arts I donāt wear the watch at all most of the time and use a HR strap, which I prefer for strength training also.
-
Iāve gone for the basic, again because the weight difference is negligible for me, with longest activities being 3:30 - 4h depending on the marathon.
Also wear it all the time so used to weight. -
@GiPFELKiND Patience, the update will come and hopefully with few if any bugsā¦lots of testing and some major changes.
-
@General_Witt itās the same as far as I know. Sony makes the chip and the firmware for Suunto.

Is there any chance we could get a widget that would display a barcode/QR ? Given the price point for the Race, I think it could be good competition for the various Garmins for those into the shorter distances as well as the longer.
Or Iām just being very āitās all about meā!

@David-Lown an honest question from an old geezer; why do you need a code on your watch screen? Is it for identification purposes in some race or smth? I am really curious!

Barcode is for Parkrun - saves having to take a phone and/or a printed copy. Very useful as I tend to visit different places and donāt necessarily take my car.
Possibly a bit personal to me but my memory isnāt the best but thereās nothing worse than running a parkrun and realising youāve left your barcode at home. No barcode, no result . Have done that about 10 times in the last 360 parkruns (over the last 10 years). -
@David-Lown I think this is mainly about you - have never heard of parkrun beforeā¦
At least I am pretty sure that there are many things on the list that are of higher priority for a bigger user baseā¦ -

At least I am pretty sure that there are many things on the list that are of higher priority for a bigger user baseā¦hmm, there are approx 3 million parkrun runners worldwide
https://www.parkrun.com/about/#:~:text=parkrun started back in 2004,million parkrunners (and counting).should be enough of a user base / incentive for Suunto to at least look at, i would have thought.
-
@TonyG to be fair, it would be useful, Iām forever losing the sodding barcode and printing it out again
-
I went with the Titanium model. Main reason is the weight. It looks and feels lighter and less bulkier on the wrist as the Vertical Titanium. And to me the Titanium model looks better than the stainless steel (I never liked black watches). In my eyes the watch doesnāt look like plastic at all, I really like the looks. But: beauty lies in the eye of the beholder.
The 16GB extra memory are not important to me.

As for priority, itās possibly going to be on par with turning the face around, dimming display time at night etc.
-
@David-Lown If Parkrun is managed the Suunto API is available commercially to create a SuuntoPlus app that would display a barcode. I think this would be an ideal use case for a SuuntoPlus app. I would enquire with Parkrun and see if you can get this started, not sure it would be implemented from the Suunto side.
-
@David-Lown thank you for enlighting me! I read and tried to understand the concept.
Priorities are given by Suuntoās product managers, not by you or meā¦Anyway, I donāt really understand why I need a barcode, if the watch tracks the run with GPS. What is the difference to letās say a Strava segment?
Could parkrun maybe use Suuntoās API to sync runs from Suunto App that happen at the designated time and place? Like syncing to other services.
QR codes seem to be a little analog in our digital worldā¦ -

QR codes seem to be a little analog in our digital worldā¦Barcode needed to get the result and the run. Trust me, once you start it gets quite addictive for a 5km at 0900 every Saturday!
Then add in some of the external challenges like alphabet, Cowell, various bingos and suddenly life revolves around it.
Well, at least thatās what my wife saysā¦ā¦

@Egika if I understood the Parkrun use case correctly, you need the code to register your personal result with the Parkrun organization and ranking list by beeping your code someplace. With Strava it would (probably) only be for your own bookkeeping.
Correct me if Iām wrong.

Absolutely correct - would also open Suunto a good market in the UK as we have over 760 Parkrun events every Saturday.
