Suunto Race All black or Titanium 😜
-
@Egika Same. Steel version looks better but to me weight is king. It’s easy to confuse the light grey titanium tint for a cheap plastic bezel, that’s the only thing of this watch that I really dislike.
-
@Egika @General_Witt Is only the bezel of the Race Titanium or also the lower part of the watch (where the EAR sensor is) made of titanium?
-
@GiPFELKiND The lower part is also made of Titanium. The puzzling thing is why the middle part is made of black plastic, giving the watch a weird “sandwich” look.
-
@General_Witt It’s exactly the same on the Vertical and 9P and 9PP designs. My guess it helps with drop/impact resistance like G Shocks - but just a guess.
-
@GiPFELKiND. I would definitely go for the TI version ! For light and toughness !
-
@GiPFELKiND Titanium as weight is critical to me, especially when a single race can last up to 48h. The weight difference on the wrist becomes very noticeable.
-
Just did my first run with SR. Compared to my SV, the SR does not feel as bulky and more importantly, the distance clocked is almost identical to my 965 and COROS pace 3. Previously my SV will also clock 200m more for a 10km run compared to 965 and COROS apex 2 pro. Very happy with this new watch!
-
@leafs93 Vertical is also getting the same GPS update the Race already has in the next update.
-
@isazi Is the gps module the same in the two watches? What is this update?
-
@isazi what an update for GPS? The Battery Modes in Vertical “Custom” will be on the Vertical after the GPS Update?! What exactly are changes while the Vertical will got an GPS update? GPS ist the best in the Vertical
-
@GiPFELKiND the GPS chip in there is built by third party. It has it’s own firmware.
This will sometimes be updated as well. Even if it the best, it still can be improved, for example to make re-acquisition of the signal faster after exiting a tunnel or so. -
@GiPFELKiND I got the black steel, mainly for the looks of the all black body, but also because for my purposes the weight doesn’t really matter. I never run longer than 90 minutes and for hiking it’s no problem. In martial arts I don’t wear the watch at all most of the time and use a HR strap, which I prefer for strength training also.
-
I’ve gone for the basic, again because the weight difference is negligible for me, with longest activities being 3:30 - 4h depending on the marathon.
Also wear it all the time so used to weight. -
@GiPFELKiND Patience, the update will come and hopefully with few if any bugs…lots of testing and some major changes.
-
@General_Witt it’s the same as far as I know. Sony makes the chip and the firmware for Suunto.

Is there any chance we could get a widget that would display a barcode/QR ? Given the price point for the Race, I think it could be good competition for the various Garmins for those into the shorter distances as well as the longer.
Or I’m just being very ‘it’s all about me’!
-
@David-Lown an honest question from an old geezer; why do you need a code on your watch screen? Is it for identification purposes in some race or smth? I am really curious!

Barcode is for Parkrun - saves having to take a phone and/or a printed copy. Very useful as I tend to visit different places and don’t necessarily take my car.
Possibly a bit personal to me but my memory isn’t the best but there’s nothing worse than running a parkrun and realising you’ve left your barcode at home. No barcode, no result . Have done that about 10 times in the last 360 parkruns (over the last 10 years). -
@David-Lown I think this is mainly about you - have never heard of parkrun before…
At least I am pretty sure that there are many things on the list that are of higher priority for a bigger user base… -

At least I am pretty sure that there are many things on the list that are of higher priority for a bigger user base…hmm, there are approx 3 million parkrun runners worldwide
https://www.parkrun.com/about/#:~:text=parkrun started back in 2004,million parkrunners (and counting).should be enough of a user base / incentive for Suunto to at least look at, i would have thought.
