      So just some silly questions!

Gave up with Suunto in 2017 and went to the dark side with Garmin. Love my current Epix Oro but the screen isn’t big enough for me to see easily without glasses whilst running. I can’t afford the 51mm so have purchased a race instead.
I have 3 concerns that Garmin have near enough sorted but just wondering if Suunto has any suitable solutions?

      1. Being a Parkrun obsessive, is there anyway I can put a barcode on the Race. I’m totally forgetful and would end up not taking a barcode with me.

      2. What’s the workout creation like on Suunto? Garmin is relatively straight forward.

      3. Some concerns over the OHR - anyone have any major issues? I’m not too bothered by 5-7bpm out

Also is there a flashlight process in the Race?

      Thanks in advance

Also would love NFC as when you’re 14m into a round, it’s easy to jump on a bus or stop at a pub if you’ve had enough!

          1. Not possible to “put a barcode” on it
          2. Straightforward, either from Suunto App or from a third-party like Intervals.icu
          3. Can’t say, i’m not a Race owner (yet)

Yes to the flashlight (same as S9PP and Vertical I think).
Race is NFC-capable at the hardware level, but there aren’t any use of it at the software level (yet).

          S9PP

Thanks for the answers! Can you put pictures or the like on the watch as a screen do you know?

            Thanks again

This is not possible as far as I know.

                Two things -
when checking with the heart rate strap, the measurement is accurate. just to note that there is the issue of HRV ( soon to com to 9pp & vertical)
Regarding pictures or the like on the watch as a screen - soory no can do

                  …

I have been using Garmin, Polar, Coros and Suunto watches for 20 years for running and cycling. I currently have Suunto Race.

I’ve had the steel version for a few days now and have done a few runs (Easy runs at a constant speed/pace, the strap was tight around wrist). Unfortunately, the OHR is rather poor. The errors sometimes reach 20-30 bpm. It is much worse than Coros Pace 3, Garmin Fenix 7, Garmin FR 955. I hope that the problem can be further improved with software updates.

Putting pictures on the screen? I doubt that this will be high priority for a sports and training focused watch…

Thanks, it’s just the barcode I’m after. I’m pretty sure when I used Suunto almost 7 years ago, there were lots of user written widgets. Given the immense screen, it would be a tad pants if we couldn’t do something, along with NFC.
When I run, or any type of exercise tbh, I want peace and quiet so I never take a phone with me. My little bit of me time.

That was my experience with the Vertical, but only during the first 10’-15’.

@gizmo try playing with the strap tightness.
For myself I find that during the cooler time of the year OHR is more difficult for the watches.
If I now pull the strap more tight, I restrict capillary blood flow even more…

@Luis-Andés-Olmedo At the same time it makes sense that after like 10-15’ values become better -> body becomes warmer during workout -> capillary blood flow becomes better.

From my many years of testing, I know that OHR readings are worse on cold days and when the skin sweats a lot.

though OHR in both Vertical and Race is almost always failing on me during my bike commutes. I have yet to find a setup that makes this work - handle bar vibration seems to be extra difficult 😞

polar verity sense is the answer. Much more comfortable than chest strap 🙂 . Works very well with Vertical
