New owner of Suunto Race - first feelings
-
Former 9PP user.
The design of the package is really beautiful.
First feelings are great, I have the steel version and a very thin wrist, but everything is fine and the watch is great to hold, the weight is not a problem. Control via the crown is very addictive and definitely more comfortable than clicking buttons. The UI is also a big improvement. The workmanship is excellent. The display is great too, no lagging, the system is smooth. I got a big software update right after turning on the watch.
So far it is very early, but I am satisfied and hope it stays that way.
Today I want to test it in the field and if necessary I will add more feelings -
@martintrail Congratulations Martin! We´re awaiting your report asap
Greetings K. -
Great to read. Looking forward to read your experience after the field test. Will order mine on Tuesday.
-
@martintrail how works the Step Counter? Exact? Or 200 steps after sitting?
-
After use of several days give us some insight on sleep tracking and resources. Is sleep tracking improved? Do resources have occasional drop outs? Thank you.
-
I was just on a quick trail run. Battery dropped 2% in an hour - performance mode. I was curious to see how the display looks in the sun and it is really easy to read. Compared to the 9PP it’s a huge improvement and I can finally see something on the watch :-D. Also the beeping of the laps has improved a lot, including the vibration. Also the ability to install up to 100 Suunto+ accessories is a world away from the 15 on the 9PP. Otherwise GPS classically Suunto excellent, I had no problem even on the 9PP. We will see in a few days of use. Looking forward to it.
I’m curious about HRV, sleep etc. I’m not much of a research type, I’m more of a feeling type :-D, but if it’s there, I’m curious. -

Don’t know what is exact in step counting, but Race consistently has like 2-3k steps less a day than Vertical. It does not count steps when just sitting and typing for example.
-
@Ollipolli I don’t care about the number of steps. I think of Suunto as an adventure partner. So I’m not going to rate it.
-
@Ollipolli Even if it were wrong, it is always wrong in excess and still gives an idea of how active you have been during the day. You keep asking for accuracy, but if that is your main concern, I think you have purchased the wrong watch
-
@martintrail is it available for the general public or you bought it differently?
Thanks -
@thanasis can be ordered outside of China from October 17th.
Everyone who has the watch already is either a brand ambassador, field tester, reviewer or likewise. -
@Egika Do we know if the algorithm with make it to the Vertical as well?
-
@leederek12 Vertical should have a different algorithm, also different from what it has right now (Suunto is leaving FirstBeat, we know that already)
-
@Egika ok thanks
-
@leederek12 One is purchased and the other in house
-
@martintrail Does the Race display emoticons in notifications ? The Vertical couldn´t do that.
-
@Frank-Stefan not in the messages so far.
But it has the app icon on top of the message for now (like the MS Teams icon here )
-
@martintrail Could you tell the circumference of your wrist?
-
@gizmo this is a wide angle effect of the camera
-
@Frank-Stefan I don’t have notifications from my phone turned on
