SuuntoPlus Apps Development

Yes, developing applications to help people’s lives become better is an extremely necessary thing
-
@pavel-samokha concerns only people who are willing to contribute or any SA user?
-
@DMytro not sure I understand your question, could you rephrase?
-
@pavel-samokha if suunto were to allow external development for user, would it involve any user of the app or just the ones explicitly asking for the functionality?
-
@DMytro development - both options are possible I think, though I rather think about access for everyone.
Publishing to the store - certainly restricted
-
@pavel-samokha makes sense
-
Certainly interested but only if it doesn’t ruin the whole activity or watch. Don’t know if that is even possible.
I wouldn’t mind if the metrics from my self created S+ apps are messed up though.Funny to see how most votes go for: yes, even if risks of crashing or resetting are involved.
According to all the posts on this forum, if the watch reboots mid-activity right now people are even considering switching to another brand -
@surfboomerang obviously you can buy second Suunto for experiments
-
@surfboomerang that’s what testing is all about, haha. Test on less important stuff, then use for real trainings.
I wonder tho, if it would be possible to access the ‘crash logs’. Otherwise it’s unclear what went wrong and how to fix. -
@pavel-samokha Good idea, I use my girlfriend’s S9P.
Hopefully she doesn’t notice -

Although I don’t have a Suunto Plus capable device now, it is something I valued at the time of the ambits, it allowed flexibility to have what you need and that the brand couldn’t provide.
On the other side, I think times are changing and that some suunto plus could be integrated on firmware, at least for the latest watches. But for sure, having this can bring value to the older watches. -
opening the SDK for everyone will unleash the full creative power of the whole user base.
I would definitely do this and have already with isazi’s help already coded my ski touring app, that measures slope steepness to judge avalanche danger etc.
-
@Egika yeah, open SDK to everybody. Let people code whatever they want and let them load their own S+ apps to their own watch via SA just like the beta used to work and let only tested and approved apps be published in SA S+ store for everybody.
I have an idea about a cycling dashboard with few fields I can’t have at the same time with regular workout watch face - especially with colors or alerts applied.
-
The old idea of Ambit and Movescount was great. I found some very useful apps in the community.

If there’ll be open access, it would be nice if self-made s+ apps could be shared with suunto to be potentially published in the store.

Have you ever tasted a reset during a race, in the middle? For sure not a smiling face in that occasion…

I am sure @surfboomerang was not making fun of crashes, but of the disconnect that modern users have: most of us want to be in beta everything, use the latest bleeding edge technologies, and at the same time want stability and absolute dependability
If your watch crashes on production firmware with released S+ apps it’s Suunto’s fault, but if it crashes on beta software or with your own apps, you need to own the mistake. -
@isazi I could be wrong but it seems, from what I’ve read so far, that in this forum people who complain about the various problems do not have the right to be quite angry… No one wants faulty gears, but when they happen…there is a great song by DM that sums it up perfectly: walking in my shoes.
-
@ultravox I did not know the song, listening now
