@SuperD in my experience suunto is great at filtering fake motion when stationary. I haven’t seen anything like in your example for a long time.

However, it might happen in places where there’s plenty of rocky walls or dense tree canopy.

Also, there would have to be a pattern of such bad track happening over and over again in case for it to be statistically relevant. Sometimes it’s just bad gps day.

Did you by any chance soft reset the watch prior to the workout so that it had no chance to extract and prepare AGPS?

Based on my experience, if i resting at the waterfall area and big river the track will show a bit zig zag and added few more distance. Got happen to my SV but already greatly improved compared to my S9P. my S9P show the distance and zig zag track are even more worst.

I noticed the track that you shared got nearby river/waterfall area. So i guess could be this issue too.

Most likely. My watch are always stays above water surface.
My friend told me waterfall will produce ions that will affect the GPS signal. But i not able to Google this information to proof my friend is right though 😄

This is the same spot with a Garmin Fenix 6x, not having multi-band and it’s smooth track

What is the pace are you running?

Suunto watch has better GPS performance with 16min/km which is proved by some tester.

Have you tried in 16min/km to get better results?

Here’s another example of a trail run. Not that rocky and running all the time the same path. 11,32k for me (S9PP) and 10,88k for the Garmin 935

I know I repeat myself. but direct comparison is only possible when worn by one person and even then left and right wrist can give minor differences.

if you could do overlaying tracks it would make the differences visible.
I’ve spotted already a difference in one curve where the garmin went significantly on the inside, almost took a shortcut. sum all of those up and it might explain the difference
