Offline music playback
-
Are there any plans in the future to store and playback mp3’s on this watch?
Thank you. -
@esca233 noone here knows, and if they knew, they could not share the information.
Just my thought: Who is still using mp3 anyways as everything is streamed today and in the future
-
@Egika Let them introduce a couple more stream services and I think they will push the people to piracy again

No no no, it’s prejudiced ,
Who is still using Suunto watch anyways as everything is apple watch today and in the future?

@Egika Isn’t it obvious? It would be just a simple software update to activate mp3 playback (enough storage and bluetooth connection is already there
and yes, the Bluetooth chipset inside is capable music playback (confirmed by suunto).
I think there’s no chance Suunto would be able to achieve/unlock Spotify etc. because of $$$. -
@esca233 sorry, for me it’s not obvious.
Have you ever done embedded software development?
You need to handle the files on the watch, but what is more, the whole ecosystem including the app needs to support somehow handling, transmitting etc the files.
This is not a 1 week task.
And then there are all those other “small” ideas that are on the list and need to be prioritised. Like multiple alarms, battery stats, more details and labels in the map + a myriad more. This means how good however your idea is: weighing the benefit for the majority of users (so far noone voted for your idea) against the effort needed and other features not being done in the meantime - there is close to 0 chance it will happen… Plus the technology trend is shifting away from mp3 file handling…
-
@Egika I actually did, yes (for 3 years). What are you talking about? You’re already handling, transmitting the files on the watch (f.e. maps).
I asked for any plans in the future (maybe next year) and not a change in one week, please read carefully.Thank you for your feedback, but your opinion is just useless.
-
@esca233 I am trying to explain, why I think this will not make it into the watch.
As I work in product management for tech as well, I think I can imagine how this idea will be handled.
This does not mean that I don’t like ideas - they are the core of any innovation.
Just sometimes a realistic look a things is also necessary.
I understand if you don’t like my realistic point of view…
Don’t be bothered then - keep hoping. -

Should we hope for this?🤫

@Mff73 not all of this…
-
@Egika Offline music was one topic of one of the latest polls/ surveys from Suunto.
So, why mentioning it when it is not even considered? -
I found it disappointing my S9P didn’t actually store music; especially when the advertising implies a music player. Quote: 'Train with your favorite music…"
Every cheap Chinese ‘sports watch’ I have seen can play music off-line…
Not so hard. 90% done. They already have the GUI on the watch; FTPs; Storage; BLE… -
-
not a feature the vertical needs. Better to use ressources on the sports features and not these kinds of gadgets

@Stefan-Kersting
Yeh - sorry; wrong device. I’m still new to this forum and I was commenting on the general topic of ‘Offline music player’ (or lack there of) rather than this specific device… -

Anyway, welcome to Suunto community forum

@zhang965 what if new watch will have offline music? Suunto in 5 star hotel?

@Egika Back in the mid 2000s the software team I led added MP3 and Audible book support to a portable automotive GPS. It was quite a bit of work… I do not miss embedded device software development with an RTOS. I spent about 12 years developing software for embedded RTOS devices. It was fun, don’t get me wrong. But I much prefer these days working on Linux for SoC design and development.
