solar charging

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos I’m trying to understand why two suunto verticl at the same point show a different level of solar charging, one very weak and the other a full circle
-
@Danny-poleg Screen protector on one of them?

@Anton-Vanderpoel said in solar charging:
@surfboomerang the solar charging is very fast if there is sun i several tmes reset the watch before i noticed no charge percentage after resetting the watch the charging is very fast
Is there any truth in this? I don’t know if Anton is referring to soft reset or factory reset, but is there a possibility that solar charging might become more effective after wipeout?

@SuperFlo75 I have the same and it looks very strange. Especially when you leave the watch in the sun for an hour and the straps don’t even get halfway up.
What are your experiences with charging? I never bumped up the battery more than 1% even when I left the watch in full sunlight for several hours. Not counting when the battery was almost full, then it charged to 100%, but this is probably a known bug so I don’t count that -
@aroo7 I reached some times 2% more battery over the day with solar charging, but this was in the time of my holiday with taking a sun bath for all the day… now with working and sports after 5pm solar charging is as expected not good.
It depends of the direction of the sun… doing sports in full sun is not so effective as taking a sunbath and taking care of the right direction -

I can tell you that windsurfing comes really close

@inkognito no

把手表放在阳光下一个小时,表带甚至都升不上一半时。
您在充电方面有哪些经验?即使我将手表放在阳光充足的地方几个小时,我的电池电量也从未超过 1%。不Put the watch in a glass filled with water and bask in the sun, perfect!

hello, I have a problem with solar charging, if I expose the screen directly to the sun (with full sun and 26 degrees outside) it reaches only 2/3 rings of solar energy, never full. Sometimes, if I cover the screen for a second and then re-expose it to the sun, it has all the energy rings but a few seconds after that it goes down to two again. Can someone help me? Should I send him for assistance? Thank you

@riccardo88ve
Did you try a soft reset ?I usually get “maximum” charging level, if the sun straight hit the watch (almost perpendicular, not inclined) but be careful to not overheat the watch leaving it on direct sun for too much time.
-
@sartoric I tried the soft reset and bring it back to the factory settings… nothing maximum two circles. The suunto assistance tells me that it takes from 12 to 24 hours after the soft reset to resume the solar panel ( ??? !!!)
-
Maybe it needs to re-calibrate, I don’t know
Anyway, are you in the open or behind a window ?
Just tested and I get maximum charge , but it’s enough a plastic net to lower it to “high” -
@sartoric I’m in an outdoor place! With the strong sun
-
@riccardo88ve I would be curious to know what your battery level was at. The reason I ask is maybe solar harvesting is reduced with a higher battery level and that is what you are seeing?
-
@Todd-Danielczyk Now the battery is at 84 %, but I had done some tests by covering the screen and then putting it back in the direct sun… all the rings became complete for few minutes
-
@riccardo88ve I am wondering if it’s reducing solar due to the higher battery level you have.
Once your watch drops below 75-80% I would test it out again as it may be trying to limit and protect the battery. Just a thought.
We haven’t had consistent sunny days here but should in the next couple of days. My watch is currently showing at 69% battery so I can test mine out Sunday to see what I get.
-
@Todd-Danielczyk
it shows how much sun is collected from the panels. as you say, it doesn’t charge above a certain level (I recall 90%) to protect the battery.
the watch does not show how much it was charged, but anyway, the watch’s battery will be drained less when exposed to the sun at higher battery levels -
@freeheeler thanks for the confirmation. I couldn’t remember the cut off level of battery but I remember it being said somewhere; 90% sounds right.
As for the rings I cannot say for certain I’ve ever seen mine go over 2 but will check for @riccardo88ve as we will have decent weather on Sunday (I get to be outdoors to test my Vertical out? For scientific purpose?!? Count me in!).
My bike is all ready to go and the Vertical is as well. Will confirm if I see more than 2 rings or not.

@Todd-Danielczyk
you should see all circles filled if the sun is strong enough.
I have seen it many times and in solar watch face I also see (almost) all bars filled when spending a day at the beach with different activities (of course the watch can not always be pointed at the sub, hence “almost”) -
@freeheeler I saw a different behavior of the solar circle after charging, until the battery level was the first time under 95% after being full charged… then I saw only the little flash inside the 3 circles, when the screen is locked. I say most times, because sometimes it was not different from the ‚normal‘ behavior…
