Suunto 9 Peak Pro Review part 2 OHR + GPS
-
When the weather is getting warmer, it’s a good time to test the OHR again with GPS.
a 5km run,
At first, I’d say, S9PP’s OHR CAN be very good, in the schema below, it’s almost the same as the HR belt, the difference is about 2 to 4 BPM.
But, it’s almost 10 mins after the beginning of the activity.
It’s the HR of my recovery walking after the 5KM, fair enough.
overall S9PP vs S9P:
4km run in jardin de luxembourg,
OHR is back to unusable, I don’t know why.
And final, it’s the most important 10KM:
This is the OHR, fine, I’m not an OHR guy.
Overall S9PP vs S9P
There are my review:
- S9PP’s OHR CAN be very accuracy, but I don’t know how to deal with it. Anyway I’m not an OHR guy, so it’s fine for me.
- I don’t recommend the OHR to any intensive player, but it should be OK for walkers.
- S9PP’s GPS is good, but I’d wish it was S9P… and S9PP comes with a dual band GPS chip.
- I thought my S9PP GPS track will be shrinked a little bit compared to S9P, because my S9P shows a speed (or pace) higher than S9PP. But in the end they show me almost the same distance! (with about 20m different max).
- It’s funny because when I run on an open-air field, my S9P counts more distance than my S9PP. I don’t know why.
- I didn’t face many speed drops. With my S9P, there are some annoying speed drops, for example I’m running with 4:00min/KM, suddenly my watch dropped to 6:00 for a while then back to 3:00min/km. I know the average speed and distance are correct (unless the drop period is just before the end…) but it’s still annoying. It’s better with S9PP.
- The powermeter is cool, finally I got something that I don’t really need. (I got my TSS( P) about 2times than TSS(HR) it’s normal?)
- Dear SUUNTO, do you have someone to test your sleep tracker?
- Do you need someone to test your sleep tracker and media controls?
- BTW, my right hand watch shows 20mins less sleep time than my left hand watch, how can I know what it was doing without sending the logs?
- I think SUUNTO should get better names for their products: S9, S9B,S9P, S9PP. We will see again like SSSWH, SSSWHB, SSTWH, SSSU, SSS.
which watch will get GEN2? - If you are an old Suunto product user, I still recommend you to purchase S9PP. but it’s not necessary for a S9PP user. same conclusion as my last post.

It’s not dual band. It’s multi GNSS. And I believe that its firmware will improve with time.

@zhang965 How cold was the outside temp? I get similar issues with OHR in the winter with Suunto but AW seems better for me. In the summer the OHR is much better, good enough to use on longer intervals but not short 90s or less intervals.
GPS (I have mostly open areas) is comparable to 2 different dual band, Epix2 and Apple Watch, I see no significant differences. The 9PP is better than both of my 9P watches.I think sleep tracking is quite difficult and when wearing two watches I have seen good but not perfect agreement. Similar to you and may depend on which arm moves the most.

@zhang965 was bad sleep tracking one time event or regular one? Does any brand work for you in terms of sleep tracking?
-
@dulko79 I can’t speak for OP, but I’m surprised at how far off my 9PP is in terms of my sleep measurements. It’s the only metric this new watch delivers that is worse than my 9B, which always was right on the money in terms of my sleep/awake hours, even recognizing when I’d wake up and lay in bed playing on my phone.
(Side note: I don’t trust any external device with regards to deep sleep measurements, as I have no way to verify them).

The sleep tracking is not bad. And I’m not asking a fantastic sleep tracking, it’s just a simple indication
I think there must be some validation logic on the data, if you look into my screenshot, how can I have 18h sleep between 20h and 8h.

this is called compressed sleeping! …man, I’m jealous, I would really need this super power
I haven’t seen this ever, most likely a bug. I assume you did send logs?

Btw it’s not first time I met this problem, I got one before and log had been sent.
