Temperature Loggin works randomly for swimming mode. Sports mode logging keeps changing without warning.
-
Why is temperature logging for swimming randomly appearing and disappearing on different instances.
Eg see attached:
Didn’t work on 10th June (No temp reading), worked on the 21st June again, now not working on certain swims (eg 10th Sep - again no temp reading). Same sport mode selected for all these.
-
Temperature missing is a bug fixed in the next update for what I remember.
-
@isazi Thanks for the update. I was getting worried because the Suunto rep I spoke too seemed to think the feature had been purposely removed, which would have been very strange and extremely frustrating (its already very frustrating as it is!).
It is quite a big failure, I’m surprised a patch has not been released in haste already.
-
@David-Vella the workaround to have temperature in the meanwhile was enabling the S+ weather app.

I’ve been waiting for this for 5 months!!!
(And I am thinking of changing the system.) -
Ok so an update for every one interested… Apparently this was an intended (cough-cough) ‘Feature update’ (cough-cough)…
Every time you go for a swim, before you start your swim, you have to turn on the weather insight from the SuuntoPlus features (check instructions on the manual). This is not a pain in back-side at all (sarcasm) .
I really hope they revert this soon, along with all the other “feature changes”. I really wish Suunto concentrated their efforts on getting the fundamentals right for the next release, before they spend more effort on the other gimmick features which, quite frankly, for the most part, I find rather useless.
-
@David-Vella
I don’t think they did it on purpose. it might have been a mistake and no one does mistakes on purpose.I appreciate what and how Suunto is doing
-
@freeheeler I’m almost certain it was not on purpose, but I was relaying what the rep told me. (hence the ‘cough-cough’).
It’s quite clearly a bug, which needs fixing, but hasn’t yet been fixed 5 or 6 months after release. Amateur stuff really.
I don’t know what’s wrong at Suunto but I really hope they get their sh*t together soon. The competition in this niche is fierce and they are being left way behind.
Shame; they used to be a great company. I’m on my 4th Suunto product. At this rate I seriously doubt there’s going to be a 5th.

@David-Vella
to be honest, I should buy a Coros, Polar and Garmin to make honest and qualified statements… but it would be too much money for me… I used fenix 3 for almost 2 years and didn’t like it. that’s how I came to Suunto.
I like how and what they do and I know they are not the fastest, since they are a small team. but until now they fixed and improved frequently.
let’s hope they keep doing it this way -
@freeheeler the point is, this used to be a feature which is now not working due to a bug. 5 or 6 months on and the fix to revert it has not been released. There’s no option to go back to a version which worked (as far as I’m aware). And the rep says it was intended…
The small company thing is just BS.
They seem to have plenty of resource for marketing and developing gimmick features, but not to fix a bug in 5 months?
So much for that “Finnish ethos” they keep banging on about…
They’ve got their priorities wrong, and that’s not a good thing for any company in any market, this one in particular.
-
@David-Vella You can revert to an old firmware version: https://forum.suunto.com/topic/6836/firmware-collection/29
-
@David-Vella you don’t have any insights into priorities or whatsoever, nor about the size of the company or the development team. This is a bug, from the reports I read (I don’t like swimming) it’s already fixed, and the new firmware release is coming soon. Said release contain this fix. In recent years Suunto provided one release per quarter (or season), but for reasons I do not know this year they could not keep the pace, so Summer release never materialized and we need to wait for Fall release.
-
@el2thek Nice one thanks. I’ll check that out. If that’s the case, this is the most helpful comment on this thread!
-
@isazi If you release SW with a bug in it which affects one of the key features of your product to such an extent, you then release a fix asap. You don’t wait for the next release which will also be late. If you don’t, then its quite clearly not high enough on your priorities. These are basics.
I did not bring up company size I was just responding that the company size argument is BS.
I wonder what other unexpected ‘features’ we are going to get with the next release!
I stand by my other comments about the degrading performance of Suunto products relative to the competition, the growing disgruntlement amongst their customer base, and that they are evidently doing nothing to fix that.

@David-Vella
interesting answer, I can not add any more comments at that point -
An update:
Using the Suunto Plus Weather insight has done exactly zilch to improve my experience.
The watch now decided to restart itself half way through the swim and not only do I not have temperature logged, but pretty much nothing else either, apart for time and heart rate for the duration of the part of the exercise which it logged.
Not even distance/number of laps etc…
Is the overdue SW update anywhere in sight? Or is it worth me going back to the previous release?

What would you swap with?
Polar Grit X looks like a strong contender to me.
I bought a Grit X Pro and ended up using it for a few months before switching back to my S9B. It was a nice looking watch but there were too many things that irked me such as the screen being smaller/numbers are really hard to read whilst training, it can’t be charged during an activity, no dedicated forum like this one and a few other things. I reviewed it on here so if you were seriously considering the Grit X or Grit X Pro it could be worth a read
-
@MiniForklift it’s funny that suunto forum slowly becomes a reason to buy suunto watches XD

@DMytro
I don’t like forums in general. this one is the very only exception, and I really appreciate it!!
there’s a lot to like about it
