yes, but as @isazi says, not recommended.
if the weather changes you need to adjust manually again, not possible during an activity. you’ll have unreliable ascent and altitude readings.

@freeheeler Thank you very much for the clarification, I did not know you could not change the altitude during training

@_giovanni not just that, FusedAlti provides constant adjustments during the activity if altimeter and GPS start diverging too much, and adjusts all the data so you don’t get a sudden increase or decrease in altitude.

@isazi Thanks also to you but now I’m a bit confused. Let’s say you need to fix altitude before an activity. What’s the best way to do this? Use the automatic adjustment before or just start the task and let FusedAlti do the homework? And what I have to do to restore FusedAlti if I’ve manually changed the altitude.?

@_giovanni Fusedalti algorithm needs some 12-15mins to correct the starting altitude (given it has proper view of the sky to reach a certain GPS quality).
If you need to rely on accurate altitude information during those 12-15mins at the beginning or you know GPS situation will be challenging: this coud be a case for manual adjustment.

Otherwise: Just start activity and let watch do its job.

But wasn’t it mentioned that the manual setting disables FusedAlti? Sorry, but this is still not clear to me (I miss A3P’s behavior on this side). So how do I restore FusedAlti when manual calibration is involved?

if you do manual calibration and wait at least 15mins before you go to an activity start screen FusedAlti is active again.

Sorry guys if I come back to this topic.

Before I wrote on this forum about this topic I contacted support. Yesterday the reply came and it is a bit different from what was said here.

Basically they told me that the FusedAlti function used to be disabled in the beginning when manually adjusting the altitude and now it is not the case anymore (for about 5 years now). Today the FusedAlti function is always on when the GPS is active: when navigating, when just looking at the coordinates of the location and even outside of exercise recording.
                        Comments?

I will try tonight. It’s easy, just set manually a completely wrong altitude, start an activity immediately that lasts longer than 15min and it will be visible if FusedAlti works or not

I could try during lunch. support is right 🙂 👍

I’ve set my watch manually to 4’444m and after around 16min, it was corrected to 442m.

@freeheeler so the only use of manual calibration is when training at altitude with no or poor GPS reception…
Technically totally makes sense to me.

And what does the altitude graph look like after saving in such case?

i am still used to Spartan fused alti (blocked if manual altitude setup), AND, and old memories about some “progressive” adjustment at beginning of activity (don’t remember from where i have this memories). 🤔

I think it was like that also for S9B…
start and end alti could be better, but I assume it becomes better the longer the activity runs… and even then: with gnss comparison and correction, not bad
