Suunto 5 turns off with battery left during run

@nicogno suunto should be ashamed about ,2.18.18 version. That’s all.
Have you tried recalibrating the battery? I have a Suunto 5 tested with this firmware and do not have your issue. Perhaps don’t blame Suunto until we know what the cause is.
-
@brad_olwin how can I calibrate the S5 battery?
-
@nicogno discharge the watch to 0 and then charge to 100%
-
@łukasz-szmigiel thank you!

UPDATE (may be useful): @isazi @DMytro @Brad_Olwin I did a few new activities and it seems like the issue is gone. The only difference between the latest activities (during which I didn’t have any issue) and those during which my watch turned off unexpectedly is the location in which they were performed. Due to covid-19 restrictions I was running around my courtyard both the times when the watch turned off. On the contrary, when running outside I didn’t have any problem. Therefore I believe the issue is somewhat related to the GPS signal being
- either disturbed by interferences coming from my home
- or most probably gone crazy due to the dozens of loops done in a very restricted space (and the roof shielding it)
I believe this is worth being investigated.
-
@nicogno if you have a way to reproduce the issue, send the logs as soon as possible after it happens. You can use Suuntolink (then copy and share the ID), or Suunto App (in that case we need your username and time and date you sent the logs).
-
@nicogno I am very sure that the issue was not triggered by position or doing loops. The watch doesn’t care which numbers it writes into the log file and if those numbers repeat or not.
So far this seems to be a glitch and since it is a one-time only event any correlation to the situation in which it happened is speculation.
As Isazi mentions: If it happens again, sending logs as quickly as possible will help the devs. -

2.18.18
I’ve experienced the same issue for the third time now.
It never happened while I had the v2.18.18, and since I updated to v2.20.30 I used the watch in very hot temperatures for a few weeks without problems; every time the problem occurred it was at mild summer temperatures.
The first time I was hiking, starting with over 30% of battery and the Battery Low screen appeared after a couple of hours; on the next use, the watch wouldn’t lock the GPS signal with running or walking activities, would freeze for 30 seconds if I navigated back to Exercise and then Hiking, and would automatically go back to the home screen if I selected Exercise --> Hiking directly. Only hard reset made it behave normally again, until I did a Tennis activity, starting with around 30% battery again and failing after 30 minutes.
I followed very cautiously the instructions to recalibrate the battery, but the very next time I started a Run with 21% battery, the same issue occurred within 12 minutes.
Very disappointing for a product that hasn’t even got 6 months. -
@Francesco-Pagano if you are having battery issues contact support, if the watch is under warranty they can check.
-
@Francesco-Pagano I’m having similar issues as of v2.20.30, but my S5 Burgundy Copper is already off warranty period (Hardware 0071B4). I’ve already performed (not one but two) factory reset, battery recalibration, uninstall/reinstall app to no avail.
Should I try to get to the dreaded black charge-me screen while aware of having battery left and upon near instant recognition of the watch by Suunto Link send logs?
