Re: [1 week on](bugs i found.)
my current gps settings is [GPS+QZSS + beidou]
recently I noticed GPS / antenna issue on my watch.
during a run, I stopped by a restroom for break. I will pause my activity, go into the restroom for about 2-3mins. this is still outdoors and my phone gets 4G signal here. after coming out of restroom, I will resume my run and at end of run, my map shows a straight line from the restroom to my end point.(in order words, gps signal lost).
picture shows my run, supposed to be a complete loop, but turned a straight line towards the end.
Is there any way I can check if my GPS is still (green) mode before I click on resume button on the watch? my signal was green when I start my activity, and would assume signal is still on throughout and not lose signal halfway. I did not go to any indoor buildings during the run and these rest points are outdoor toilets.
I’m getting this a few times and I do not have issue on my Garmin previously.
pic shows I did 4 loops on this run, went to restroom twice and signal resumed sometime later.
similar issue when i run below a bridge. my signal gets lost and it becomes a straight line as well. this always happen when i run under some bridges. I’m still outdoors, not enclosed.for lost of signal case, I did an experiment today by doing a pause before entering the restroom. resume activity after I come out to continue. press and hold middle button to go to options menu. selected navigation, routes and chose my map which I preloaded. true enough, my navigation map shows a “/” sign in front of the “N” north arrow.
I’m very sure my signal is lost now. I went to a more “open” area, away from any trees, but my location is still unknown and watch prompts “off route”. I waited for a few minutes, turn my angle around a few times, attempting to get my signal to continue my run, but fail. I ended my activity and started a new run.
Within 1 minute, I got my green arrow (my gps signal is good to go) and proceeded with my run.I wonder for UTMB runs, when the are resting at the checkpoints, they will face similar scenarios.

@lamp21 MacRitchie, nice, went there when I was living in Singapore!
Anyway, it should not be that bad, I often go under bridges and at most I get a straight line for the bridge section, and the signal is acquired again when I exit the underpass. You are not using Galileo, and are also not changing battery mode right?
I will test what happens if I get inside a place and out but I never had any issues so far with the Peak.
-
@isazi nope, not using galileo. initially wanted to use none of any gps settings as Singapore don’t have mountain, don’t think it matters.
background: MacRitchie is 90% trails and I do get into the woods. but the below part of the map where I went to the restroom, its at the carpark near the main road and I should get me signal strong.
yup, battery mode is the “best” or performance mode. I’m troubled over this. I also had another experience where I “swam” across the waters, where I pass under a huge bridge, it should not go signal lost as this area is very open.
for this area, it happens most of the time to me. unless I use snap-to-route, I will get a map with the blue lines directions.

@lamp21 with is that the huge concrete building in Marina Bay? Never managed to not lose signal under than building, even DC Rainmaker activities in Singapore have GPS lost there.
Anyway you may want to contact support, or wait for next firmware because it fixes some GPS issues. Not sure if your issues are because of the watch or environmental though, so maybe wait for next firmware and then contact support if it happens again. -
@isazi correct, its sort of a building.
1st pic. I went slightly under the structure on the right side of the picture and my signal got lost from point X. (still considered outdoors) to remind myself not to run under everytime I pass this place.
2nd pic. side view of my running direction. run under this building where I “should” lost my signal, since I’m going under. (going under for less than 5 seconds only)
3rd pic shows where I come out from this building.
nothing enclosed, all outdoors. I dont have this problem on my other GPS watch. and I do get 4G signal on mobile phone if I go under this building.
GPS signal don’t resume immediately after coming out, but resumes after a reasonable time.
will look out for new firmware if there is improvement. I got the idea that 9 peak’s gps is quite accurate. will monitor other strava users on their routes as well.

I also exactly have the same issue this morning suddenly with the gps with the straight line (also in singapore). Have never encountered like that before. I just updated to firmware 2.18.18 (yes, late update). And yes, battery is in performance mode and i ensure to wait for gps until it turns green.

@kk2n-kk you also are not using Galileo?
-
@isazi nope. I was using glonass

Re: gps stuffs
an update of my GPS settings for past 2 weeks.
switched to Galileo for a week and no difference.
I was cycling outdoors and did not go to any building, GPS signal got lost. and then a straight line again. this did not happen before. (cycling on roads and parks)
several times when i tilt to look at my watch, i see that the speed is ---- and i would know that my signal was lost.
comparing running and cycling. running have steps and the watch still clocks my “mileage”. but cycling activity totally stops counting once gps signal is lost. means i lost my distance at the same time.
my signal did not recover after near 3-4-5km away, and i did pause the watch and stopped for 5mins+ to let it “recover / search” but made no difference. loss signal.switched to GPS only today, big difference!
started my run and 25 seconds later, gps signal lost! im still outdoors and running my usual route which doesnt happen before. while i continue my run, gps signal came back after 4mins. then lost signal again at 39mins, regain signal at 42mins.
lost signal again at 46mins, regain at 49mins.resetting my watch now to see what happens next. may send to my service centre if this is isolated issue.
