'Sending failed' when attempting to clear a notification

I have enabled notifications on my Suunto 9 Peak.
I receive notifications on my watch for text messages, emails, etc.
On multiple occasions, if I try to clear a notification from my watch, it fails with the message “Sending Failed” with the option to Retry or Cancel.
Even if the notifications have been cleared on my iPhone, they still stay on my watch and my only option has been to power off the watch and power it back on. -
