Pool Swim Functionality

I live in a block of apartments with a 12m pool which I train in every day. How do I set the pool length to 12M on the Suunto 9 Peak -when I tried to do this the minimum pool length available is 15m and you can go as high as 200M (never seen a pool that big!). Any suggestions in how to capture the 12m length?
Suunto recommended a custom exercise set up, but pool length is not one of the options that can be customised.

@ianwhite800 what is the minimum distance you can add in feet? I agree with you that you should be able to add any positive number there, but it is not possible at the moment and I do not believe it is a priority.
-
@isazi this would be 39.371 feet which is 13 yards. Again if I choose imperial the yards starts at 15 on the exercise type so does not solve my problem. Seems strange as I know a lot of people who live in complexes with “quarter length” indoor pools (12.5M) so why would Suunto choose 15M as the starting point and have pool lengths available above that number that do not exist anywhere in the world! I may send it back! Thanks for your help and quick response.

while there might be a lot of pools of small size out there, this limitation is there for a reason.
The lane detection algorithm needs some trigger to mark a new lane. This is mainly the push off of the wall. If the two walls are too close to each other the watch would have a hard time to detect the lanes properly.
While you could discuss if the limit should be at 15m or at 12, 0 is not possible and even if you change it there will be someone complaining that his or her pool length can’t be set…Plus I would hardly call it swimming if you just need like 5 strokes to reach the end of the pool…

@egika Thanks, I guess this makes sense. The judgement on the exercise type was unnecessary, we are all different and exercise from our own contexts. Guess I bought the wrong watch for my context which will teach me to do better research next time!

@ianwhite800 For what it’s worth, Garmin, Polar and Coros also all have a minimum length more than 12m. A solution could be to just use the minimum length since it’s mainly about the laps.
-
@el2thek Thank you, this is good to know and as another person said this is probably related to the algorithm. Yes I think I will use the 15M length and just edit the distance after completing my routine. I went for a run last night with my new Suunto 9 Peak and it was a very good experience - excellent GPS and good feedback on how unfit I am!!! Onwards and upwards!

Have fun, enjoy running, and ask yourself if you feel better, not your watch
These sport watches are great tools, but in the end you decide what’s best for you.

@ianwhite800 not sure I have come across a watch that does allow a length that small, as per the reasons others have stated - to difficult to get it to count the laps.
The smallest Garmin allows is 10m - but you have to set it up per custom size setting, and that is post activity. Watch only allows 14m - and even then its ropey on detection compared to 25m where its pretty darn accurate counting laps.
-
@jamie-bg Thanks! It is so much more helpful talking to other users. I will set the watch to 15 and then edit the distance at the end, see how that works. Either that or move to a place with a bigger pool or join a swim club!

Interesting, in my Vivoactive 4 I can set up in the activity setting on the watch 13 m as a minimum pool size. I am able to do so before the activity.
What I am missing when I do pool swimming with Suunto is a count of pool length completed. I have it on my Garmin and find it very convenient.

@giacomo-laffranchini - are you sure there isn’t a data field that you can select for that, cause am pretty sure there was one on the S7
-
@ianwhite800 I would probably suggest 24 meters rather than 15, just because dividing by 2 seems easier to me than changing multiplying by 4/5
-
@jamie-bg I created a custom sport profile but could not find a counter for pool length completed. I can have either a lap count or interval number count. However the minimum distance for auto lap is 100 m ( if I am not mistaken). This was also confirmed in another post on the topic.
However, no big deal at all. I now use auto lap, and since I swim in a 25 m pool, I know that 1 lap is 4 pool length. Hence, not a major issue.
Anyway, in the SA after the workout I can see details for each pool length completed.
Thanks for your input

@giacomo-laffranchini NP - happy to help - sorry been a while since I used it.

Still the limitation is there for a reason.
The watch will not reliably detect each length - if this was possible, 12m would be available. Tis is why I don’t think, just setting 24m will do the job… -
