Wim Hof Method
-
This is a request for a Wim Hof breathing activity setting in the exercises offered by the watch. It would need timer, blood oxygen and perhaps heart rate and the ability to remember the breathing rounds each session.
Would such a thing be possible? As an aside, it’s strange that a Finnish watch can’t be taken into the sauna!
Mods please delete this thread if it’s in the wrong place. -
@ramrod I have worn my Suuntos to sauna many times
-
@egika That’s outside its stated temp range by quite a bit. I’m assuming it suffered no ill effects?
-
@ramrod correct. All working well, but no warranty of course
-
@ramrod well, isn’t the Wim Hof method proprietary? Surely Suunto cannot inplement it without paying Wim.
-
@isazi Only if Suunto were to introduce a guided breathing/breathwork function on the watch. If they simply added an ‘exercise’ that measures HR, SPO2 and time, started and stopped by the stopwatch, and counting rounds (like laps) then I can’t see how the Wim Hof company can object.

Would be nice, but I doubt that the S9P oxygen sensor would be fast and accurate enough. I tried it … You can see some trends, but no comparison to a medical sensor. IMHO, SpO2 sensors are currently not much more than a toy in such watches (speaking for all brands).
-
@nasmon Would it need to be fast? It would have between 1:30 to 4 or so minutes to get it’s act together…
-
As I’ve experienced it, the watch takes one measurement and it takes a while until the next one is possible … not sure about that.

@ramrod
Garmin Fenix (and a lot of other models) have a Breathwork activity, which includes around 5 different exercises. The exercises are guided by vibration (only issue is that sometimes you can barely feel it, as they alter the vibration depending on whether its an inhale, exhale or hold). The range from 5mins to 16mins; only pity is that you cannot create your own plan and sync it.
Measures Stress (HRV) impact, respiration rate (not sure why as not your normal rate, but useful to see if you are syncing correctly according to the planned breath rate, stress, and HR (SPO2 isn’t recorded - as per other comments - though I suppose you could take a manual reading prior and post activity). If your stress gets too high you will get a notification and suggestion to run a breathwork activity. Personally I tend to run them prior to bed, as do find it reduces my time to fall asleep, and also have better stress levels during my sleep.
