Syncing steps to Google Fit
-
Hi!
I have a question regarding my new S7. How do I sync the steps from the Suunto app on the watch to Google Fit?
Today I was walking with both mobile phone and watch. If I configured it correctly, the mobile phone recorded the steps in Google Fit. Both the mobile phone and the Google Fit tile on the watch show the steps like that
Afterwards I went walking with the watch but without phone. So these extra steps have been recorded by the watch only. The Suunto tile shows:
But I’d like to have the steps from the Suunto Wear OS app on the watch synced to my Google Fit account. In the settings menu of the Suunto Wear OS app it says, that the app is connected my Google account.To summarize: What am I doing wrong? Or in other words: what do I have to do to get it working?
Thanks in advance!

@simon01011 Hello!
You can try to use ‘Health Sync’ partner service: link
It works fine for me. -
If you have added your google fit profie to the google fit app on your watch, then it should sync your step data through automatically to GFit app. You can go an force that sync by pressing the watch icon. Once that has completed press the refresh icon near it, as in Sept 20 they changed how the app works - its now server based i.e. you sync your data to the “phone” - which it straight away sends it to the cloud server, which then sends it back to the phone (could be numerous reasons for this i.e. using own algorithms, for sleep tracking etc). The net effect is that google servers for GFit aren’t great and sometimes it can take a couple of days for the data to show on your app, other times it comes through fine. Sometime some of the data seldom shows.
Note that GFit will also recalc your step count and calorie count based on their algorithms, not what the suunto app has provided.Note - no HR data will transfer other than activity HR data.
Further warning - I have recently been advised that the are removing my data - probably something to do with Wear 3.0. Same might happen to you too.Would seriously suggest ignoring GFit and removing your profile from the watch, and just using Suunto app on phone and suunto app on watch. Data is better laid out, you get to see sleep data, steps, HR, body resources, steps and calorie count during the day. plus very easy to see year, month, weeks and 30 day detail. Plus other benefits of the app like being able to filter for certain activity data and to compare similar activity tracks.

+1
Since I disconnected and disabled Google Fit, I use only the Sunnto app and works like a charm. This with the advantage that I have running and syncing one less app on Suunto 7 and on my mobile. -
@egika weird - as everyone has been complaining about that - maybe they have updated the GFit api again to now allow it.

Thanks for the answers!

My health insurance rewards me with some money for living a healthy life. That means I need to have a certain amount of steps each week (which is not a problem running around somewhere ). Their app can connect to FitBit, Garmin, Samsung Health and Google Fit. So, unfortunately, there is no way to connect their app to the Suunto app. That’s why I need Google Fit on the watch. I suppose there is no way to connect Suunto app and Google Fit both on the phone? So that the Suunto app syncs to Google Fit and I don’t need Google Fit on the watch anymore?
I disabled Google Fit on the S7 an enabled it again, now it seems to work. I hope it stays like that. So thanks again

pretty sure that google fit app on the phone syncs with suunto phone app. You just have to connect them on both apps.

@jamie-bg I’m a bit confused…
In the Google Fit app I see in the settings for “connected apps and devices” (I hope I translated correctly from German) “Suunto” and my health insurance. But I don’t know if “Suunto” is the Suunto app on the phone or the watch.
But the funny thing is: On the S7 I see the steps from Suunto to be 1984 at the moment. Google Fit on the watch says 1984 as well. The Google Fit app on the phone says 1839 steps. And the health insurance app says 1984 again… So this is confusing for me. I thought the health insurance app connects to Google Fit somewhere on a Google server. But what does the Google Fit app on the phone do?
Edit: Playing around with the Google Fit app on my phone (basically opening and closing several times) caused the app to show 1984 steps as well now. So it seems the Google Fit app is slower syncing to its own server than my health insurance app…
Over the weekend I will test to remove the Google Fit account on the watch and see if the sync from Suunto app to Google Fit both on the phone works
