So far my experience with the Suunto 7 is reasonable (considering the terrible battery life that is WearOS), but I have a big issue with GPS lock time typically at least 5 minutes. I’m used to Amazfit GTR2 lock time around 10 seconds, Garmin FR245 around 15 seconds and Coros Apex around 10 seconds.
What is wrong with Suunto 7, why is it SO bad?

@wtfalltaken just went outdoors to check actual time: 12 seconds from starting Suunto Wear OS app to GPS fix… perhaps it helps when you restart the watch, Sync to Suunto App and then try again?

@wtfalltaken I’ve also just tried a GPS fix in my back garden. With buildings on two sides I got a fix in 16 seconds (it’s usually quicker out the front when I am in the open).
It does take longer on the days when there is thick cloud or heavy rain, but that is to be expected.
However, 5 minutes is not normal. Maybe try watch restart (or even a reset?). Or speak to Suunto Support as they are really helpful.

And terrible battery life? I’m getting 48 hrs between charges with 24/7 HR, sleep tracking, and 30 minutes of GPS activity tracking. That knocks the pants off an Apple Watch and keeps up with Tizen (but that is now a dead OS as it had no apps).
It’ll never last what Amazfit, Garmin, or Coros do but they are very different devices aimed at different markets. It’s like comparing a smartphone (which we have to charge every day or two) to a feature phone (which lasts weeks).
If your battery is substantially worse than this, then I would suggest there is something draining the battery, or there is something wrong with your watch.

          Hope this helps.

@wtfalltaken Normally, if you synchronize the watch with the phone before going to do the activity, the GPS Lock is in a few seconds, more on outdoors. Many times it happens that the clock does not synchronize for several weeks or it makes a very large displacement (a trip to another city, etc.) and the clock takes longer to achieve the GPS Lock because it does not have the updated GPS position information. I remember Suunto recommends it, if I’m not wrong, but I always open the Suunto Wear app while I’m getting ready to do the activity, so when I start it, the GPS lock is secured without waiting a second longer.

@wtfalltaken The watch will try to keep AGPS data up to date in the background. No need to sync it to SuuntoApp for this.
The watch just needs an active BT or Wifi connection to be able to pull this data.
If you have it in airplane mode all the time for instance, AGPS data will time out and could not be used.

@egika I just got a S7 and have connected fine to SA and WearOS (im on Ios). I also don’t seem to be getting AGPS files to the watch (only waited a few mins because was in a rush) and my resources and sleep are not getting from the watch to SA either. Routes are going to the watch so that is working and I can customize the short list of sport modes. Wifi is connected via WearOs and I have restarted the watch and I have been able to download offline maps. Any tips? Another restart? I have closed SA and Wear apps on phone and reopened…

fixed the resources and sleep sync with a SA update. did a factory reset after discussing with support. GPS has since been able to lock but both times took 3 mins or so and accuracy was not good although I did not allow the watch to continue to “soak” reception prior to start which could be a factor. seems like the watch has not yet gotten AGPS logs.
