Suunto 7 Sleep Issues
-
@andy-dennis I did check with the team. The algorithm is based on FirstBeat so its a little bit of a black box for us.
Are you wearing both watches at the same arm? Can it be that changing arms helps ?
-
@dimitrios-kanellopoulos Hey dude - Will give this a go tonight and swap arms .
Are the heart rate sensors both the same ?
-
@andy-dennis no the S7 should have a newer sensor with better capabilities.
The s7 sensor can also detect if the watch is offhand or does not have good contact. It has an IR sensor as well for that.
So this can also be a case?

@andy-dennis
Just as a side note - I swop to my right wrist for when I sleep and haven’t found an issue yet. I put on cinema mode, and switch of touch lock (also stops button presses).
I have so far found that mine’s duration is usually within 10mins of my CPAP machine, so it has to be pretty accurate. -
@jamie-bg thanks Jamie going to give that a go tonight !!!
-
@andy-dennis how did it go man ?
-
@dimitrios-kanellopoulos better ! Baro 9 reckoned I had 7.5hrs of sleep and the Suunto 7 on the right hand wrist now has 5hrs 33 , so a lot better .
Will switch it back to my left wrist tonight and check . Still not sure why it’s not detecting my actual sleep time start , that seems to be an issue . Is there anyway you can instigate a manual start ? Wake time is perfect .
-
@andy-dennis try making the sleep start time earlier.
For example I usually go to bed around 10-11pm .
My sleep start time is at 9pm
-
@andy-dennis what do you have the bedtime reminder set as?
-
@jamie-bg hey Jamie I’ve got it set for 9.30pm.
Some days I get sleep starting at 3am other days it doesn’t track at all .
I don’t think it’s an issue with the code as it’s the same as the Baro 9, which works without any issues.
The problem is the HR sensor with LifeQ unit .
I am permanently out of rhythm right now and at 11pm each night take a medication to keep my heart in rhythm (we’ll sort of , what it does is lessen the impact of being out of rhythm ) .
I’ve got a medication change later this week so will see how it goes .
All I can say is right now that the LifeQ HR unit doesn’t perform as well as the previous sensor for someone with Atrial Fibrillation .
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos any more ideas here ? I’ve done a full cache clearance / system reset but it’s just not stable .
The only thing I can suggest which is implemented in Whoop is the ability to manually define the sleep start time and learn over a period of time from the HR stats rhythm when your real sleep time starts …

@andy-dennis no more clues unfortunately
