Suunto App Training with HR monitor not synced with Spartan

Hello Folks,
I’m new to Suunto and have a Spartan Sport Wrist HR Baro. I also have a couple of straps - one Polar H10 and a Suunto Smart strap. I just completed some weight training, using the app paired with the Polar strap, whilst the watch was somewhere else, charging. Now, the app shows the training session (with all details) but it does not appear on the watch after synchronising. Do I have to wear the watch to record an activity, or can I just use the app and a hear rate monitor.Apologies if this has already been addressed somewhere else.
