Poor step count from Suunto 7
-
Hi first post and I’m sure this question has been asked before.
I have had a a Suunto 7 for just under a week and I’m frustrated with the step counter. I cut the grass yesterday front and back and only managed 152 steps. Is this an issue with the watch that it’s not very sensitive?
I wear the watch on my dominant hand so would expect to see more than 152 steps. Can the sensitivity be increased?
Any help and advice would be appreciated
TIA -

Cut the grass = hands on the mower handlebar?
Watch measures steps estimated by hands movements. So I guess in this situation you can’t get better measurements. -
Unless you were holding the lawnmower with only your non-dominant hand, that probably explains it. Counting steps with a watch is not an exact science, but I believe your arm must be swinging and/or the watch must sense a rhythmic vibration as you walk in order for a step to be counted.

@mff73 I understand that but but wasn’t always walking round holding the lawnmower I was doing other things.
I didn’t have issues with my fitbit. I guess I’m going to have to walk round with a bit more sway
So no way on the suunto 7 to select dominant hand or improve sensitivity.
Thanks for the reply by the way -
@mattyross
As a general rule i find that in my normal/working day I do between 1000 to 1500 steps.
Pushing a pram or anything else where you are holding your arm out will reduce your step count.i assume you have upated your profile in the suunto app on your watch, as that can also impact on calories and steps.
