Hello, i just bought Suunto 5 watch as replacement for my old Ambit 2S. I was quite excited that suunto materials promote 7 days battery life with 24/7 HR and mobile phone notifications. I today charged battery to 100% (first time) at 10:00. Now is 16:53 and only 83% percent of battery. I didn’t do almost anything with watch. I have HR monitoring turned on, notifications turned off, airplane mode or battery saving modes are off and backlight in toogle mode and turned off. It looks like it lost around 2,5% every hour. It means it will be drained after just 40 hours. That is far from 7 days battery life as promoted by suunto. I checked and i have newes firmware 2.13.18, watch was manufactured just 1 month ago so battery should be at it’s best. What is your experience with Suunto 5 with HR monitor turned on 24/7 ?

Is this bad battery life normal for suunto products or I have some defective device?

I found some older posts but it was related to older firmware version.

      Thank you.

@tomas-0 Keep in mind that the battery drainage isn’t linear. My experience is that the rate is higher above 80% and below 20% then between.

Some things you can try before contacting Suunto support.

        • Reboot the watch and phone
        • Try to let the watch run totally dead. Then charge it fully (also a while after it reached 100%)

If that didn’t resolve it, contact Suunto support

@surfboomerang but you don’t have daily hr and sleep on. I think it singnificantly decreases the battery life.

@дима-мельниченко OP is talking about the S5 not the S9.

@isazi are there more advanced algos or more energy efficient hr sensor in s5? Battery on s9 is supposed to be beaffier, no?
I kinda extrapolated my experience with s9 and spartan trainer whr, which is the previous to s5 modell. But of course I can’t say for sure, since I had no direct experience with s5.

This is my battery life. HR 24/7 enabled, sleep tracking enabled, bluetooth notifications disabled, vibration disabled, tones in button off mode. I did use GPS for 10minutes. I had one indoor activity with HR for 20 minutes. Once per day i synchronised with suunto app. Every day a played with watch around 5-10 minutes. Backlight was off 99% of time.

So it looks i was too rush. Battery drop was fast only above 80% of battery. At around 80% i did soft reset. Maybe it helped to stop rapid battery drain.

I am very satisfied with result.
