Android Location Requirements

I have disabled location services on my phone.
Suunto App is telling me I need to reenable location in order to connect to my S9B. Despite this messaging, my latest activity was still imported from my watch to the Suunto App.
What is the actual dependency on location services enablement?

@stromdiddily
I guess it’s required for manual sync only.
Maybe some sort of re-pair is done -
If I am correct (asking as well my colleagues) the location is needed for the BT access and pairing first of all.
If you have linked your s9 as a companion device this might not be needed anymore (location) since it’s paired and known. If you do not link as a companion device then it should be still be needed.
Additionally your dashboard needs the location to show the tracks and the maps to focus at the location you are (also dashboard).

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos interesting re the dashboard. The app did just ask me what state I was in which I had never seen before. I wonder if this was triggered by location being disabled?

It needs to be turned on. Even for already paired devices.

@surfboomerang I keep location turned off and everything is still synced without any issues. Nevertheless when I visit the page shown in your screenshot the app starts to complain … I simply ignore it, and that’s it. BTW: companion is activated (although I still do not really understand what the advantage/result is, but it does notcreally matter as long as the activities are logged and synced correctly ), messages to the watch are deactivated.
In contrast - Stryd does not sync at all (from the pod to the app) if the GPS is turned off.
