SUUNTO 7 doesn't turn on
-
My SUUNTO 7 turned off for some reason and refuses to turn on. I remember when I bought it earlier this year it was weird to turn it on: it wasn’t enough to hold the power button for just 2 seconds (I was on the brink of returning because I thought it was faulty), but I needed to hold it for at least 20 seconds. I used the watch this season without a problem, except that I had to turn of screen touch during my run because my long sleeve kept agitating it to the point of slowdown and crash - but settings solved that. On Monday I put it on the charger for the night, I believe it still had a charge around 50%, but when in GPS + HR tracking mode it won’t last too much longer than 4 hours, and I didn’t want it to switch to battery saver modes. So I rather top it off than run out of battery.
Yesterday (about 20 hours later) I detached it from the charger. I don’t use always-on mode, so the screen was blank, but when I press any button the display should awake. This time it remained blank. Even if I would not put it on the charger properly for some reason the 50% battery should have easily lasted until the afternoon. It wasn’t in an exercise mode or anything, but my phone wasn’t around it either. I didn’t rinse it after every workout recently because I’m not sweating as much since the summer is over. I wipe it off with my clothes every time I take it off though; I make sure it’s not wet. So now it doesn’t turn on even if I hold the power button for a minute. I wonder if anyone else experienced this before, and how it got resolved. I cannot believe the watch would be dead or bricked. I wonder what are my options if it requires repair, I live in the US (California), I’m a second hand owner. -
@tocsa
I would contact Suunto support.
As a second hand owner, I would also ask the original owner for the proof of purchase, as you’ll probably need it. -
Typically this is bad cable contact etc.
Try to “wet” and clean the pins on the charger.

@sartoric I couldn’t find the contact of the original owner

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos So after an all-night charge session it came back to life. So somehow it ran out of battery.
The only thing I could find is that the watch could go into thermal shut off in special cases. As a hobby project I was developing my own smart watch and came across that: the recharge heats up the battery. If the CPU / memory starts to do any work which heats up that part (they are sandwiched next to each other) then there’s just so much heat the watch can dissipate. This is generic for all smart watches, but I would not expect it during winter, when lower room temperature helps heat issues. I don’t have any evidence that there was an update, so it could be that it ran out of battery for some reason, the charger cable connection might not have been perfect (although I check that but I can make a mistake).The system on the watch says it’s up to date. However in the Play Store app there was a Wear OS package update waiting (not full OS OTA, just the package although I know that’s an important system package).
The build number I see is PXDZ.200824.005 so I’m not 100% sure if I have the H MR2 firmware version. That may help with battery issues.

@tocsa Ok, so the build PXDZ.200824.005 brings the H-MR2 https://9to5google.com/2020/09/08/suunto-7-wear-os-mr2-update/
