Ambit3 Peak Navigation alerts - Help please!
-
I have recently taken my first dive into activity watches with the Ambit3 Peak. It seems to have all the features I need, and was particularly drawn to its reported GPS and Altimeter accuracy (and it’s comparatively low price!). I have even managed to work out the rather overcomplicated ‘dual app system’ with Movescount on the PC for planning routes, using user-generated apps on the watch and managing the screens, info displayed in different modes etc, then syncing to the iPhone Suunto app to view the routes completed and associated stats etc. Unfortunately the ‘user guide’ provided by Suunto is woeful and does not touch on any issue or function of the watch in sufficient depth, I have been cobbling together my understanding of this very powerful bit of kit from all sorts of other online sources.
Anyway, my question is: why does the watch beep when I am navigating a pre-planned route? When walking along it will start emitting a repeated triple-beep. I am thinking it may be related to drifting off-route, but it seems to be doing this at random even when I think I am on route accurately. I can’t see any other alerts on the watch when it is beeping like this. Can anyone please help? Many thanks.

If I am not mistaken, A3P beeps when you start navigating the route, when you go off-route, when you go back to the route and when you approach waypoints and the end of the route. If you have many WPs you will hear that beep a lot. Beep may be also related to the HR threshold. And, finally, in my case sometimes it was related to false storm alarms reading.
Hope this helps. A3P is a brilliant piece of hardware -
@Efejota Ah thanks for that. I think the ‘triple beeps’ must have related to going off-route, and perhaps back on to the route, as it kept doing it repeatedly. Is it supposed to beep continuously when off-route? Do you know the tolerance it uses for what is classed as ‘off route’?

Have you tried reading in the manual?

@André-Faria Yes! Can’t find any information on this anywhere in the manual. If you know otherwise, please direct me.

I don’t know, I never had that problem with Ambit 3.

In a sample of 1 case, A3P off-route notification occurred at ~200m perpendicular.

Thanks for all feedback. Useful info re the ‘off route’ tolerance. I’ve realised, however that the repeated beeping is linked to the ‘better HR zones’ app I have installed on the watch. This gives double beeps on the threshold of HR zones, so if I’m hovering between zone 1 and 2, for example, it beeps repeatedly as I cross in and out of each zone. Case closed!
