Suunto A3P - syncs multiple logs
-
Hi all,
Loving my new Ambit3 Peak. Lots to learn, however!
Like why, after I’ve completed an activity and hook up to Suunto App to sync, does it sync a seemingly random number of the activities on the watch?
For instance I do a single 17km run and the app says “syncing 14 activities” after… There’s currently about 22 stored on the watch, so why 14? It takes longer than you’d expect to transfer over for this reason, too…
I know there’s some issues with the switch to SA for A3P, but this one seems odd…
Cheers for any help. Haven’t found this written about anywhere yet.

Yesterday’s random sync number was “20” after I completed a single 10k… Took a while…
-
It looks like it never completed the initial sync (all moves)
Start a manual sync and let it go -
In addition to what @sartoric said, make sure your watch don’t go into sleep mode and stays in bluetooth connection range with your phone.

Thanks @sartoric and @andrasveres
Just to confirm: a manual sync is when I connect watch to app via Bluetooth, then go to the watch icon top right of SA and check that it syncs (as it syncs automatically as soon as it’s connected) - to be sure, after this, I pressed ‘Sync Now’ to do another one… That correct?
To be clear, every activity I have completed with the watch has previously been transferred to SA and copied over to Strava each time… That’s never been an issue… it just chooses a random number to re-sync each time I do a new activity.

@DWils so as I understand: all activities were transfered from watch to Suunto app previously via bluetooth and not with the Movescount transfer option. In that case I think something happend to the local cache. Did you tried uninstall and reinstalling the Suunto app?
BTW when you connected your watch to Suunto app, were there any activities in watch logbook? (that is initial sync was referring)
-
I have the same problem. Sync to SA was always syncing the new activities only.
The first time I saw syncing many already synced activities was when I connected the watch via cable and used Suuntolink to update some watch settings and Suuntolink reported syncing many activities.
And now the same happens to SA. Thankfully the order of syncing was from newest to oldest so I stopped the sync once the new activities were synced, it would take much time.
Maybe Suuntolink changes something on the activities on the watch or on SA account and now SA Bluetooth sync thinks they are new/different activities?
Please guide for next steps, I will let the watch finish, or at least try to, the sync.

@andrasveres Thanks. I tried uninstalling the app, but no improvement yet. Still syncing lots (but not all) of the activities upon connection to SA. I have never used Movescount, but have used Moveslink to update settings etc from PC…
-
To clarify, after each sync to SA, it does NOT create duplicate activities in the app…
The only downside is the amount of time taking to sync lots of activities!
-
@DWils Did you tried the initial recommendation of @sartoric about starting sync and let it finish all (making sure your watch is not going to sleep and doesn’t get out of bluetooth range from phone)?
BTW if you don’t use Movescount for activities then use SuuntoLink not MovesLink (to be more precise MovesLink2 for Ambit3). SuuntoLink will sync activities to Suunto app and setting from Movescount. -
@andrasveres I believe I have. I have every activity I’ve ever done on the app - things are getting sync’d and sent through to Strava… It’s just it’s re-syncing a random number of activities each time I finish a single activity… I then finally get the new activity up on SA and then it sends to Strava (where I want it, if I’m honest, all this software malarkey is just the middle man!) It doesn’t send any old activities to Strava or double them up in SA…
Is that enough, or do I need to do a full sync another way?
Thanks - I will try SL on my PC now…

@DWils Okay, so let me know if I understood correctly:
- your watch is paired to Suunto app
- Suunto app account is connected to your Strava account
- you use MovesLink2 to sync settings to your watch (SuuntoLink is not installed and you never used)
- Movescount account isn’t connected to your Strava account
- each time you sync with Suunto app it pops up that is syncing random number of activities and not just the number of activities done after your last sync, however no duplicate activities are shown be it Suunto app or Strava
Now let me detail how is in my case:
- I used to use Movescount (Movescount app on mobile and MovesLink2 on PC), but since end of april this year I only use exclusively (both Movescount app and MovesLink2 were uninstalled).
- my watch is paired to Suunto app to sync my activities wirelessly to my Suunto app account, but I don’t have any connected service (like Strava)
- I have installed SuuntoLink to my PC and connected to both Suunto app acoount and Movescount account
- I use Movescount website to change settings or add POI/routes then sync with SuuntoLink to my watch
- with this setup sync is working perfectly fine with Suunto app, I don’t see random number of already synced activity syncing again over and over
- however let’s say I synced my 2 activities with Suunto app already and I connect to SuuntoLink then I see “syncing 2 activities”, but no activities are duplicated and this is normal as Suunto app doesn’t mark activities as synced in watch so SuuntoLink gets them from the watch too.
- in some conditions there could be duplicates (see this topic for details), but I think that isn’t your case
Can’t find here in the topic what smartphone OS and which version of Suunto app are you using? Maybe some others can hop in if you are using Android since I use iOS and never seen this behaviour on Suunto app.

@DWils said in Suunto A3P - syncs multiple logs:
Is that enough, or do I need to do a full sync another way?
Thanks - I will try SL on my PC now…I’m afraid that syncing with SL doesn’t make any difference in this case. I’ve believe I’ve seen something similar (A3P, SA, Android) but never really bothered. And I don’t think it actually pulls all those activities from the watch, it’s more like syncing with logbook entries as it’s just too fast. Just for reference - syncing a a full logbook with SA takes about an hour. But I hardly ever monitor what Suunto App actually does or reports while syncing, for me it all just works in the background and I just get my new activity notifications few minutes after getting close to my phone.
What you can do is forcing a FW update through Moveslink2 (or factory reset or something similar in Suuntolink), this will clear watch logbook and SA should be back on track. It will also reset your recovery status, steps and probably few other datasets so you might need to teach it your swimming styles again.
