So, what are you going to do after Movescount closes?
-
@sebchastang
I assume this is the way Suunto wants users to upgrade.
I know the watches aren’t inexpensive by far! I did the step while I was bored sitting at home recovering from getting a bunch of screws in my elbow… I accounted it as entertainment expens back then and I do not regret it.
While I enjoy the newer Suunto watches, I absolutely understand everyone who would like to stick to their older models. I also think it is a question of how green a company wants to be… it is definitely also a waste of resources if you replace a 2-3 year old watch that would actually work easily another 2-3 years.
Just to mention, my wife upgraded to S7 recently as she wanted a swimming mode and a reliable OHR. I did the S9B upgrad 1.5 years ago. We both gave our Ambits to good friends/relatives for a second life and we would much appreciate if their Suunto experience is that great, that they might buy Suunto again one day, rather than buying any other brand because of disappointments now… -
@TELE-HO
Sure, I also would appreciate a S9B, but as my watch is still fully functional (no hardware or software issue) and it perfectly fits my needs, I don’t see why I should upgrade.
Thanks again for your answers -

Hello,
Does anybody know if Suunto custom apps data is now synced into Suunto app for Ambit/Traverse watches ?
Thanks.
As far as I am aware, after contacting suunto support: apps data will not be synced to suunto app.
At least that is the current info/status.POIs
Routes
Training plans
Apps
Will continue on the movescount website.No workout creator available (was present on movescount iOS/android app)
Although a lot has been written, I guess in the end the transition is much better than it was in the beginning: https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2019/01/suunto-announces-decommission-plans-for-movescount-platform-impacting-some-watches.html
For me it is ok, I will be enjoying my watch without worries.

@André-Faria
I’ve had an app that simply calculated the ascent in m/min into m/h and I setup MC to show me the m/h value instead of the m/min value… it is a minor thing, I know. But it was so much better to read than the default m/min value… at least in the groups I discuss and the tour information I read, the unit is always m/h… in SA it is m/min again and not adjustable
in QS @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos has set it up so you can select in the graph what unit you would like to see …by the way, Dimitrios, did you check if it is possible to show in the overview the ascent rate for ascents only? that was another ambit app I used to use and it was great to see for specific (where applicable of course) climbs, how fast you were “climbs only”. -

We all have minor stuff that would like to see not going, or being implemented.
For me, considering the initial decision from Suunto, I am fine with the decisions made, at least I didn’t end with a paper weight.
Ok some features were removed, but thats life. Nothing is eternal.
At this point I think it is worthless to ask more features/implementations regarding the ambit/traverse line.
And all that can come is for sure a bonus.
But it is valuable that we turn our needs into feature requests for future app versions/watches or find a solution. -
@André-Faria
I did send this request (m/h) to Suunto as an improvement suggestion. The answer was something like “I’ll forward it to the developers but I can not promise if this will be implemented”.
So it is a very very static “discussion”.
I see the chances much higher of things getting implemted when we discuss things in here. @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos is THE wire into Suunto and even though he can’t do magic and is also waiting for things himself (sometimes stategic decisions), it is the best chance to bring the watch and app furtherI don’t understand why SA only shows m/min. Most likely because it is the unit for mountain runners. But e.g. paragliders would prefer m/s and hikers, backcountry skiers m/h.
Suunto is somehow slow in that regard and is blocking themselves… when people ask me about SA I said some months ago: well, it’s crap, but you can use it for watch settings (S-line…) and sync to your favourite 3rd party service. Now I must say (after about 1.5 years!), it definitely is progressing and improving and I consider it useful to a not insignificant extend… but it is still far from: THIS is what I MUST have.
If you want “THIS”, use QS! It’s not extremely fast (maybe due to my slow laptop and phone) but things work and things are being pushed further. It’s a one-man show, yes. No long decision paths, no meetings, just coding and testing. SA suffers a bit from the disadvantages from bigger RD&E teams and the company structure. Like ANY other product in the world. But this we don’t recognize since the products usually are released when they are complete and tested and fulfil the target customers needs -

It’s a pretty standard answer. They send one to me too, but I’ve never heard a follow-up.

I’m trying to use Suunto Apps to setup structured workouts when Movescount app will be killed.
My app is OK on the App zone on Movescount. When I try to sync it to A3P with Suuntolink, the app is not transfered and there is nothing on the watch. I tried with Moveslink2 and no problem, app is transfered and can be used on the watch.
Did I miss something ? I’ve understood that Suuntolink replaces Moveslink2 for A3P settings.
Thanks.
-
@Janfi , I can just say that not so long ago Suuntolink synced apps just fine from Movescount.
Does it just skip apps and everything else from Movescount still syncs? I.e. if you add a new sport mode that does not include any app, is Suuntolink able to sync that? -
@Janfi
I remember that I’ve had to sync couple of times before my changes were pushed to the watch back when I used A3PS… -
@margusl Thanks for your tip. I don’t why, but Suuntolink was not connected my movescount account. After refill my credentials, everything seems OK.
-
@TELE-HO Interesting. This time it was not the same case (credentials as indicated on another post), I will see if the behavior will be the same in the future.
-
@Janfi
it’s the same with kids you just have to repeat it a thousand times and be patient -
-
Thank you I didn’t receive it.
Reformulation without bullshit : “We have now confirmed the new schedule for the final slaughtering of Ambit3 users, which means that your settings will soon can only be done with a computer and cable so don’t forget any setting before going outside. Furthermore, you will not be able to use structured workouts with a simple GUI anymore on your mobile phone, as it was indicated when you buy the watch, but you will need to use Suunto Apps and develop programming skills to setup your workouts. Be happy to use 20x more time than using Movescount App which do the job because we decided to throw it to trash bin”.
Hopefully, some guys provides useful tools in this crappy situation when Suunto is unable to do it. Take a look at Wanarun if you need help for structured workouts in Suunto Apps.

Thanks, I didn’t knew that tool, only ambit intervals .
-
@andré-faria Thank you too , ambit intervals seems very interesting and I didn’t know it.
-
I own S9B and happy with the suunto App. Before that I used an Ambit.
I really enjoy the routing function in the app. Garmins own tool is a nightmare.
My issues with suunto is rather that my high end gadget cant handle complex intervals. The GPS in SB9 is not working that great either. For that I bought a Stryd, but the Interval function is a deal breaker for me in the long run.
Think I will try a Polar when the time comes.
-
Will use my Ambit as long as possible.
I run using a Stryd and row using a custom app to display speed. This is all fully working, so for me this transition is not a big deal anymore. I still think the Ambit is modern and a cool watch, so no real reason to replace it.
-
Due to the transition to the Suunto App I’ve some questions. Will thankfull for the answers
- Where will moves store phisically - somewhere in the Web or in a smartphone? I wouldn’t waste phone memory for this.
- How will I be able to view and manage moves - through some Web-interface or Suunto App only?
- I use Ambit 3. As I’ve understood I will have possibility to setup the watches via movescount.com, but will have no access to moves archive and no possibility to upload new moves. That is the site will live but the most of functions will be disabled?
