Battery drain - bluetooth connections ?

I am using the S5 with a stryd footpod and the polar OH1+ heart rate monitor. I’ve been using this combination since last October (2019). In the past few weeks, I have noticed the S5 connecting with my Stryd even though I am just sitting at my desk with zero activity. This is causing the battery to drain on both my S5 and the Stryd. Has there been some firmware change which caused this? Would the solution be to make the S5 go into airplane mode (annoying)?
