Suunto 7 Altitude 100m off
-
Hi,
With the latest update (September 2020), the altitude is wrong on my watch.
I did a tour to a mountain (1433m) and before the update, the altitude was correct.
However, after the update I did the same tour (start - top - end are the same, but a different route) and here the altitude is at 1334m.
I also checked in the city, my phone GPS says 400m altitude, my Suunto shows 293m. The 400m is more likely to be accurate.
Is there a way to calibrate the altitude sensor?

@who93 do you have some location data ? Where is that point that had issue? Suunto uses MSL FYI

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos said in Suunto 7 Altitude 100m off:

The peak was Schöckl.
Since it was the same peak on both routes, the altitude should be roughly the same in both pictures. Also note, the start of the route was on both days the parking lot of the cable car - at the cable car station there is a mark with an altitude of 800m - my Suunto showed me (last picture) below 700m. So already the starting point is wrong.
In my office, Google maps show me an altitude of 360m, an app on my phone using GPS shows me 390m but my Suunto watch gives me 290m. So again ~100m offset

hmmmmm indeed I see better now. Did you use maybe fusedtrack / non best GPS ?

Thanks for the reply, I checked, the setting in the Suunto app is already at “Best”. There is no way to calibrate the altimeter? Is the altitude estimated using GPS? I downloaded the app
Altimeter for Wear OS on my watch and there the correct altitude is shown (I guess this app uses GPS information).
I noticed that this Altimeter app for WearOS first also samples 299m but then, after a second or two, it shows the correct altitude of 360m. -
That 299 should be the barometric altitude.
Suunto checks GPS and corrects that eventually.
Try this please.
- Find an open space and leave the watch outside while recording. Leave the altitude screen as you have in the picture on. It should in about 15mins max change to 360.
Tell me the results

This happened to me too, but with S9baro. The altitude was off about 80-100m. The ascent and descent was precise though. I used the “endurance” battery setup. Could be that the case? Thanks.
