AGPS from the future
-
While we all know that Suunto is superior to any other sportswatch brand, it’s usually a matter of personal opinion. However, today, I’d like to present an indisputable fact that Suunto is a leader in technology race as it invented and made available in their products a time travel implementation!
Jokes aside:
Today I went on a small walk and had it recorded. It was strange that I got a fix after around 30 seconds while I usually have a fix in under 5 seconds. I was curious to track precision after it took so long for first fix and after checking it in SA there were way more errors than usually with GPS + Beidou. I usually get very good precision - there’s no problem in recording on which side of the road I’m walking, even in urban areas but today it was poor.
So I went to check AGPS status and I saw that indeed there’s AGPS but from tomorrow (today is 2020-08-21)
Normally I would disregard it as too minor to write about but perhaps it’s related to this bug?
I’ll see if the watch will go bananas tomorrow as it tries to get AGPS with tomorrow’s date.
-
@Łukasz-Szmigiel I have the same
-
I had 22-08-2020 this morning. Doing now a reboot (that wipes out aGPS) to see whats going on
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos why is that? Is it due to time zones mismatch (ie. AGPS displaying GMT-8 or something similar)?
-
@Łukasz-Szmigiel no that should not be it. The timestamp etc is sent via Sony. Suunto has little interaction there.
Other people (as I raised this as critical) on Suunto have 21.08.2020.
So it can be a glitch but I am investigating (and Suunto)
If you reboot the watch and sync via the app ?
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos hm I can soft reset but then I won’t be able to check if it’s related to this as you suspected it might be related to GPS time.
-
@Łukasz-Szmigiel Good one
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos just in case, logs from today, no soft-reset, after writing this post:
270818656532800
-
@Łukasz-Szmigiel I also did one. It was fixed. I’ll send the logs.
-
@Łukasz-Szmigiel now that I remember:
Sony has done this again.
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos I’m curious what will happen tomorrow after the watch tries to get AGPS from 22nd while having 22nd in memory.
-
same here, agps from future
-
@Łukasz-Szmigiel nothing I suppose
-
Looks like it was sony.
At least our watches didn’t get "affected " aka no gps
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos interesting! I had a run today with no issues. Also the watch didn’t go boo boo as I suspected it might.
-
@Łukasz-Szmigiel I have seen these glitches with the agps from sony.
-
My gps track wasn’t as good on 21.08 as always, but it wasn’t very bad either
By the way in the last few days I run every day and observe a slight deterioration for the gps mode itself. -
@Maryn I’m sticking with Beidou. It’s most reliable and there are plenty of satellites available, at last above Poland. And battery use isn’t bad either.
-
I used beidou but sometimes I had a slight shift so I went back to GPS for a while. Today I will try again with Beidou
-
@Maryn I think that those shifts may be related to how the GPS chip is processing position using GNSS data and hand movement. Notice how offsets are often reset when you change direction.
