Is my Ambit3 Peak Shot?
-
First post here, looking for some help because I’m concerned about my trusty old Ambit3 Peak-
I rode a 13.2 mile mountain bike route today using the ride a route feature. It was a 2 hour ride. I had my settings to log every 1 second and the most precise GPS. Autopause was off. The route feature worked great as always, but when I finished, it said I only road 6.8 miles and the workout was only 56 minutes long. The watch was locked the entire ride and I never pushed any buttons. The route that it showed me for my “move” afterward just looked like it cut a bunch off my ride, one large chunk and then a lot of switchbacks around the “edges.” I’ll try and attach screenshots. The ride was mostly in the shade of trees, but weak or lost GPS signal wouldn’t account for it showing a 2hr ride was only 1hr, right? I’ve had the watch for about 5yrs and it’s been the most reliable mobile device I’ve owned so I’m pretty concerned. I was let down that when it uploaded to Strava it didn’t register a single segment on this IMBA (fairly popular) trail. I’ve used this watch in plenty of thick forest rides before and never had a problem. When I uploaded the GPX the night before via my PC, it sync’d everything just fine and I believe that includes updating GPS, right? It was the first time I’ve used the watch in several months.
Is this watch just toast? Would a factory reset help?
I’m going to try again on a 5k run with no trees after I recover from today’s ride (90 degrees with 80% humidity) and see what happens. I like to use the watch to record significant rides for me and to see how I stack up against other riders on Strava segments so it would be a major letdown to have this happen again.
What do you think? Thanks!!

@Chris-Wittwer
yep, I think you should try again and worry then… I saw that with my A3PS, too… but only once! -
@Chris-Wittwer Maybe first to reset GPS only… and before the next activity wait longer after watch acquired GPS.

Thanks guys.
After taking another look at my route, it actually looks like it just stopped recording altogether about halfway through. I’m thinking I must have accidentally hit a button and paused it somehow or it just lost GPS connection and sort of got stuck. Just weird that the navigation was still working.

@Chris-Wittwer , navigation works fine when recording is paused.
I had somewhat similar situation this weekend, used my A3P for nav during a race and had to glance at it quite often, at some point noticed it was on pause. Didn’t loose more than 15 minutes out of 30+ hours, but it still reminded me to lock those buttons - for me it’s really easy to accidentally hit a pause button when riding with gloves.
