Ambit 3 Peak Route Support for Suunto App
-
@TELE-HO I really like my S7, but I don’t use it for long activities.
-
@isazi
her longest activities will be 4-6hrs backcountry skiing
The nice thing about S9B is that I can charge it every now and then and can do sports whenever I want and I really don’t worry about battery charge… I even don’t remember when I last charged
But I understand why she decided for the S7. Very nice female design, usability for everyday also in the office and much more functions than her A3R. -
Suunto has betrayed us when it does not enable the full functionality of the Ambit series in the Suunto App.
-
That’s why I decided to get rid of my Ambit 3 Peak and go for another brand. Fortunately I didn’t buy Suunto watch for my wife. After having used Ambit 3 Peak for 4 years I have to buy another watch because Suunto decided to kill it. It’s a brick now with no funcionality. Suunto? Unfortunately never again!

Agreed… But Shush… may upset someone with that opinion…

Does anybody know: if I still have the old Movescount app on my iPhone - will the change settings via bluetooth feature still work in the future or does it use external services which will be shut down?
-
@tomhaegler not 100% sure, but the latest Suunto announce talked about the MC apps not working anymore.

It’s not really an opinion when people are losing the features they paid for. You could gold plate it, give it the ability to play TV and a magical fold out keyboard to write your love to Suunto on forums but if you bought it for navigation (POIs) and the apps (in the case of Ambits) then it’s essentially a brick. I get that there are people on here who love Suunto and think their products and tech does everything they need them to. And that’s great. What I’ve noticed with most of these people is an inability to see past this fandom to accept that the changes Suunto have chosen to make are not great for everyone, and in quite a number of cases completely removes the features these consumers purchased their watches based on. Unfortunately this response is not dissimilar to that which you get from Suunto when trying to get them to accept that their decisions have lost users critical functionality.

I know where you coming from and have been complaining here and direct to Suunto… Suunto ignore you… And on the forum ypou get told to stop complaining by some… I use my watch for all aspects of my life,Work(am an outdoor activities instructor) and am a team leader in MRT/SAR, then personal life when I am not teaching these I climb,cave,hike, kayak,ski etc etc…the Ambit 3 meets ALL my needs and is perfect but soon I will be loosing half the functions that make it perfect… Just because Suunto don’t seem to give a damn about us.

Lack of elevation profile by creating routes in MS was the last nail in Suunto’s coffin. I’m cycling and without it, AP3 is indeed a brick. Think about all people who still buy it because they read following description on the official Suunto website: route planning in Suunto Movescount.com, elevation graph - available Suunto cheats potential customers. A non-conformity of goods with the contract

I have actually emailed them about all this… No one response… They just don’t care.
-
@lohtse I imagine they don’t care. Probably they still have to many faithful customers.

That may quickly change if they keep do as they are doing
-
@Maciej elevation profile bug is a big one. Few folks have been able to get it to work with older versions of Chrome or Firefox but it seems spotty.
-
@lohtse You are totally right.
Many others users doesn’t read/know previous “updates” about digital transition. Now, with movescount web and app popup messages they are realizing what we was discussing and warning here. For Ambit/Spartan users, the feedback is terrible on FB groups and many specialized sites like Montre Cardio GPS (in french), kikourou and others…
So previsible. I see one positive thing : after A3P, my choice for my future watch will be more simple. 2 others brands have a mature environment with everything I need : app, web, interval workouts (incredible it is so hard to code !), and hardware is now acceptable vs Suunto hardware. The third and latest brand is very young but making very fast improvements, has an incredible hardware and the best for the end : they listen customers/users.

It is a pitty that maybe they don’t pass that feedback through suunto official channels (email, phone, suunto fb).
What young brand has web? Only coros comes to my mind but they don’t have web afaik. I guess only garmin and polar. -
@André-Faria It’s Coros, that’s why I wrote only 2 brands with “mature” environment. Web is missing for Coros. But when you see how fast they had making a consistent approach with their watches, how fast the app is evolving, the real new ideas (rotating button, track mode program which seems to be dramatically accurate, according to tests), and the overall hardware quality… Add to this the capacity to include news functions to all models (except Pace because REAL hardware limitations) and a good price for sapphire/titanium…
I will not be surprised if in future a basic website will be proposed. They are weak for routes, but they know it. They done many more when in the same time Suunto is unable to achieve is digital transition with incomplete app, stopped website, frustrated users with removed features and many more

On my side, as Ambit user, I don’t trully need an website, and understand why suunto closes Movescount.
The only part is failling is that movescount was more than an analysis website…it had apps for ambits, it was the way to manage settings, to upload routes.
If that is integrated on the app, ok for me, I will then analyse my training on other platform and draw routes on other platform.
In fact it is the reallity for Suunto 9 users if I am not mistaken. But not for Ambit 3 users.
If suunto app allowed me to change settings, structured workouts (like movescount app), upload gpx, manage POIs, manage apps, that would be enough for me.
But it won’t happen I believe. I think they will “force” to update to 9 to have this newer experience, and then people will get used and they will save money on maintaining movescount. -

You are right, the experience for S series users and Ambit users seems very different.
