Hi all, i recently Bought a suunto 5 and have been scratching my head on if kcal’s were the same as calaries and can someone explain why my kcals are high like 1hr boxing i burnt 2,297kcals that seems like an insane amount is this accurate,
i tried looking on the forum and guide but havent found anything explaining this
Any help would be extremely helpful

In this context Kcal’s and calories are the same. The fact that you see so much kcals is that the watch shows the active calories (burnt in an activity) on top of you BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate). BMR is the number of calories your body need just to keep you alive :).
I’m not sure about the Suunto 5, but the Suunto 9 shows the difference between Active and non-active calories in the watch.

Awesome thank you for your help, just one more question all theses figure are they estimates or close to the real numbers of cals burnt?
-
They are always estimates, but it can be more accurate if you properly configured your personal data (age, height, weight, rest/max heartrate etc.)
Also don’t forget to measure your heartrate during your activity. -
Maybe some background info:
