Recently got an ambit 3 after several years of owning Garmin vivoactive watches and I absolutely love it, Yes it lacks the fancy colour touch screen, the activity tracking features, the wrist hr and the web connected apps like weather etc but to be honest I now realise that these were unnecessary gimmicks (to me anyway). The weather was never correct, the battery life was horrendous and 24/7 hr was absolutely pointless to me.
Now the ambit3 seems like a proper, serious, rugged watch that doesn’t pretend to be something its not and does what it does extremely well.

I spoke to somebody at suunto live chat last night expressing my concerns over the future of the ambit3 and movescount and was told support for the ambit3 will continue as it still sells well for them. Below is some extracts from that chat regarding movescount:-

Me: I also understand Movescount will soon come to an end. The Ambit3 settings are still not supported in the new suunto app so do you know how this will work?

Suunto: The Movescount website will be changed sometime this year to accommodate Ambit users so stay tuned

Me: Movescount already accommodates ambit………do you mean the suunto app?

Suunto: It does. Movescount website will be changed to a different one, renamed and improved.
The new web based tool will focus on watch settings, routes and sport mode customization exclusively for ambit and traverse watches.

So hopefully this info will help anyone else worried abut the future of the watch and app.

      Gaz

the point is that until xmas 2019 ambit3 users were able to do settings on the phone while they were on the go and could sync them to the watch.
looks like for the future you need to carry the laptop and cable for simple and small sportmode adaptions.

the ambit3 is an awesome watch but appears to me a little bit as treated as the stepchild… yes it is an “old” product and will suffer obsolescence some day, but as you say it’s still sold while functions are already being removed…

Ah I see. Being a new user I cant compare things to how they were before but I assume you’re referring to the movescount app for mobile? I’ve tried getting it for iPhone but it seems that its been permanently removed.
For me personally, as long as I have a way to make the required settings then I’m happy. I don’t mind not being able to do this on my mobile as once I’ve set everything up, id then just want to use my watch for what its for and not get too hung up on tweeking.
As the rep states “web based tool”, maybe this could sync to the suunto app which would then allow changes without the use of a laptop?..Fingers crossed!

it would be nice to adjust settings in MC web and then sync it to SA and then to Ambit3. But I don’t expect that this is aimed for by Suunto as in my understanding MC and SA will be kept separate, also because they’re different databases.

Enjoy your Ambit3, I upgraded to S9B during a boring injury recovery to have something to play with 😉 my A3PS was only few months old and I don’t need 2 watches. I took the chance to compare the 2 watches during some runs and then gave it to a good friend of mine and I think he appreciates and enjoys the watch 🙂

@TELE-HO make setting via mc isn’t so bad. It is a little bit annoying for people use to use MC app to make settings on the go.
Bad thing is that activity sync doesn’t work good . Manual laps are not visible in SA since months, users with latest iPhone generation are reporting sync issues …

I really don’t understand why should movescount web exist at all if users need a cable to sync everything?! Just make an offline app and get over with it. It’s schizophrenic situation. We have watches that were designed to be “connected” meaning to use Bluetooth and mobile phone for syncing moves and settings and now they are gradually removing those “connections”.

There is no technical reason why syncing of settings should be done only with cable in the future (for a3p). It’s purely suunto’s unethical decision to disable this core function of the watch. It used to have it, newer watches have it, but only a3p is going to lose it.

We still have movescount app, which works, so they actually don’t really have much to do. Just let us use it in the future. Or at least enable sync of everything through suunto app. But to remove the syncing of settings through mobile phone all together is unethical and bad business practice.

it’s like you buy a TV and after some time they disable your remote… you can still watch TV but you have to stand up from your comfy place to change channels and adjust volume

@TELE-HO Far from optimal and not exactly as advertised originally, isn’t it? I would be pissed by that.

@TELE-HO That’s still online? Oops. Opportunity missed, Suunto. There’s all that space after the word “App” to put “(Withdrawn)”, “(Discontinued)” or, possibly “(If You Can Find It)”.

@Oktan but at the end you need to connect cable to upload new setting made in browser to watch.

Android users can still use MCapp, the apk is somewhere and the app still work as usual.
How long is the question, but for now it works.

Yes, still. Until suunto disables movescount app completely, as promised. At the same time, they only commited themselves to keep cable sync. Not a single word on keeping mobile sync for settings in any form.

The way they are handling this transition is really a good case study material for a lesson how not communicate with your customers. Total communication disaster.
