Movescount to Suunto App
-
@Philip-Donetti I recall somebody saying that if you install Sports Tracker app then SA will see the Smart Sensor (but I’m not completely sure, you should dig a little bit in the forum)
-
@TELE-HO somehow I can understand it (Suunto != the Salvation Army), but… if they want users to “pay” for their service should state it when creating an account. Limit the account to be used only with Suunto products (including HR belt too), that’s fine too if they state it. Providing some service for a time then move to another one that doesn’t allow or provide alternative solution for some features, and not sending out a clear notice about added/removed features it’s wrong practice if you ask me, that leads to angry customers.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining here, but six months ago when I purchased my Ambit3 if I would be noticed by this transition I might consider buying an S series watch or maybe some other brand. Now I’m here 100% satisfied by the hardware and features of the Ambit3 but awaken to reality of uncertain future for it.
Yes I know some solution will come, but right now using 2 different software it’s getting frustrating. I stopped using Suunto app for now, I don’t see the reason for it since my moves are synced to Movescount already with Moveslink2. Installed back the Movescount app just for the sake of convenience to be able to sync my moves without a cable (not that I’m afraid of the cable solution ).
Keep using and enjoying my watch, but that 100% went down quite a bit. -
@andrasveres your case, however, is very different. You have a watch and want to keep using it to it’s potential, and don’t want to settle on something that cuts off some of the functionalities of your watch. And this is what you should get, I’m totally with you even if as a S9 owner who only used SA I’m not affected. But the internet is laden with free services that are not supported anymore and die (Google kills more services than it creates) and we can complain as much as we want, but if you get something for free nowadays you should know it may not be forever. Even Strava recently removed support for external sensors on their app.

@isazi I don’t have a problem with shut down of a free service (however in case of Suunto not sure how free it was since you purchased the watch) but the way it is done.
If it were to be shut down you move on, but we are in the middle of a transition where nobody sees a clear picture to decide to wait or move on. I don’t know what will remain in the end for the Ambit, I just know that some is taking away piece by piece for now.
But again to be clear, I’m not complaining, just expressing my opinion. -
@andrasveres it’s free if you just use the app without purchasing a watch, like the OP seems to be doing, as he never mentioned any watch.
-
@isazi he might be using a Suunto Smart Sensor which is also a Suunto product
-
@andrasveres you’re right, although the Suunto hrm would still work with any other app supporting external hrm sensors, and it’s still going to work with movescounts until next year at some point.
-
@isazi
I remember there were requests about it.
It is great as a fallback and to be honest if somebody has a Suunto Smartsensor… it already cost a not negligible stack of coins… -
-
@isazi
but you just checked and it does not work as described (anymore?) -
@TELE-HO that’s the link (or at least one) to the request to have sensors paired to SA. And yes, I just tested the hack/workaround and it did not work for me.
-
@andrasveres I’m using Suunto smart sensor and belt bought with my Traverse Alpha HR, so expected the software to sync, which it did until they moved from Movescount
-
@cosmecosta thank you will have a look and see
