When Ambit 3 Peak will transition to Suunto APP?
-
@dkoor
yes, you can also say “not all”… to me it appears as only few are synced or displayed -
@TELE-HO and @dkoor
i think there is strange things here
Normally, all moves in SA, must be in Sporttracker, if not, it is a bug for sure.What is not good, and the meaning of my too short remark, it is that sporttracker, for now, doesn’t show any ascent/descent for workouts from SA. @dkoor , it is something you will miss in this transition currently.
-
@TELE-HO Thanks for the headsup! Will ofc chek it out all as the time passes and I make more activities.
I understand that there may be issues, and since I’ve been long time user of many similar pages, I’m kinda used to it… And always managed to solve such problems, if it doesn’t work like it is supposed to I look at 3rd party or even manual edit until things improve. -

Thanks mate, I got what you meant to say. I just hope it wont make much of an obstacle to people until it gets fixed.

@dkoor
I don’t want to be mean, but ST would require tonns of fixes as I see it until it becomes useful.
As it has nothing to do officially with SA, I would rather have it separated on the public side (accesswise etc). -
Yeah, I get what you are saying even if I don’t know about the details yet.
I wrote quite a long post about your observations and figured that many of my writings are assumptions, and I deleted it all. Gotta wait and thoroughly try the stuff out, then I’ll see.
Apart from my past experiences with many other platforms I couldn’t really further add something useful to the discussion. -
-
@dkoor It seems you are satisfied with a significantly reduced set of features that Ambit3 Peak offers with Suunto App. I guess you are fine with pre-configured sport modes and don’t need to change configuration of fields, don’t use navigation routes or points of interest, don’t use apps, workout planning, or structured workouts, and don’t ever need to use extended battery modes. Otherwise you would have noticed that Suunto App doesn’t support any of that with Ambit3 Peak.

@silentvoyager
if he did not know yet it will be somehow a jump into ice-cold water… I hate that moments when you purchased something nice and you learn very soon that it is not lasting long or does not meet your expectations…
but how should a future customer know, e. g. ambit3 vertical is still announced in Suunto webshop to have MC backsupport and ambit apps etc…
https://www.suunto.com/Products/sports-watches/Suunto-Ambit3-Vertical/suunto-ambit3-vertical-lime-le/
Suunto does not highlight news about the service transition when you go to the startpage.
I see this critical for people that are new to Suunto and don’t know what they get.
It might well be that somebody is aware and is happy with the purchase. Some people don’t even care about analysis etc…
It is a bit unfair to advertise an ambit and mention the MC app but everyone involved knows the functionality will not be the same in 6 months from now…
I could give a shit, I’ve got an S9B that I like and enjoy… but I feel very sorry for all ambit3-ers that are now left out in the rain… -
I just hopped in to say that in spite of me using the sport watch for years, I have never been Suunto user before nor have any experience with Movescount app… therefore I really need some time to familiarize myself with the situation.
So far I’ve realized that Ambit 3 functionality in the current MC app which apparently will be deleted from Android store at 18.12.2019. is much higher that the funcionality present in the Suunto app.Suunto app is apparently successor of Movescount and if the current situation persists, it will be really a huge blow to Ambiot owners, that much I see. With Suunto app you can only really synchronize your acivities, while with MC app you can also manipulate many things on Ambit watch, watch faces, what metrics will be shown et. Many things.
Worth to mention that I couldn’t find how to do PoI’s or import Routes at all.
I can’t really believe that Suunto plan to left us high and dry in the future.Also wanted to say that I really like the watch, no nonsense approach - practically with things that are only needed to track your activity. I’m kinda old school, I don’t use earphones etc. while I’m doing my activities, but sure, I like to analyze activities afterwards in many cases.

@dkoor
you’ll be able to adjust sport modes thru cable with the evolving “successor” of MC. And you will be able to sync and check your activities to SA.
You kind of need 2 services to make your watch work. It’s not top preferred in my opinion, but it works.
My wife will do the same with her A3R. She does not see a reason yet to upgrade to a newer watch. -
@dkoor, welcome to the dark side, we have cookies! Also POIs and structured workouts :]
Just make sure you get that MC app and store it somewhere safe before they’ll pull it. -

I still struggle a bit to get it all work like I want to, but I think I’ll sort it all out in the next couple of days… so far I tried to use Movescount2 desktop PC application but couldn’t get it to work, so I paired with Android Movescount and Suunto (via bluetooth), both worked really well.
I understand there is a new desktop PC Suunto application in the works, and we will get it sometimes in the near future, if I understand it correctly.@margusl said in When Ambit 3 Peak will transition to Suunto APP?:

Yeah, I’ll be sure to store my android MC . -
@dkoor You can make changes on Movescount web, then sync with the Android Movescount app. That will work too. That’s what I do 99% of time. I never sync with the cable.

@silentvoyager
I wonder if the connection from a MC app apk (?) backup will remain to work with the evolutionary MC web…?! -

I have migrated and come to a grinding halt. App does not sync or randomly syncs parts of old activities from a month or two ago. The App looks good but so far for me is style over substance as is bloody useless. Annoyingly I have just read that the transfer from Movescount to the App by linking is once only so I can’t go back to Movescount and then resync. Contacted support this morning and they went through the usual try this, try that but all failed so waiting for a level2 response in the next 48 hours. Yes my Ambit3 Peak is old but it just does exactly what I need it to do.

Andoid? Did you get it pass though initial full sync? First sync from A3 can be painfully slow, it can take over an hour if watch logbook is full. And during first full sync the process seems to be quite easily interrupted - watch goes into standby, general power saving mode of the phone is too aggressive (on my Galaxy S9 I’ve had numerous anomalies even with medium power saving settings), power settings for the app are too restrictive (optimized battery usage and allowing background activity in Samsung terms), probably something else as well. During those first syncs I’ve just kept watch on wrist so it would not fall into standby and have tried to keep Suunto App active.
I’d just start from the very beginning - turning off all power saving settings on phone; unpairing watch from the app, checking that it’s also gone from phone’s bluetooth device list; unpairing Mobile App from watch menu; and starting over with pairing and syncing. Well, a way to dramatically speed up that first sync is just to clear the watch logbook by forcing FW update though Moveslink2, but that of course might mean some data loss. Forcing FW update has has also cured some strange connectivity anomalies I’ve had in a past and as I’ve started having them again (for no apparent reason SA wants to pair with the watch again) , I might need to go through it myself as well.
I also have a Movescount app installed on the same phone and while I personally haven’t noticed any Suunto App issues due that (SA background process has always kicked MC out of the way), it might be different for others.
Once all previous logbook entries are transferred, syncing A3P with Suunto App is faster and more reliable than it was with Movescount app, at least in my experience and with my setup. While Suunto App doesn’t do much for A3 / Traverse users, syncing itself works quite well.

So far I have never synced with the cable. syncing worked good thru MovesCount android app.
I had more time to look at the watch/internet Movescount service and I have to say that I’m pleasantly surprised, and more with all the possibilities. I can arrange myself a route, metrics, warnings and stuff each time I got for a new activity.
And once fully familiarized with this process, it’ll go as easy as it gets. -
@margusl thanks for your reply, I am on iOS and have tried everything including a hard reset of the Ambit3P to clear out all the old logs that were causing many issues but that made no difference. Awaiting support to get back to me after a long discussion with them this morning. I really want to get this sorted otherwise it will be goodbye Suunto (except for diving).
