Future S9 firmware wishlist summary

@Алексей-Омельченко
I think it’s good that they concentrate on development and suggestions and technical issues can be discussed here. Many many users, including myself, found a good bunch of solutions and support from other more experienced users -
@Алексей-Омельченко I think you are angry with Suunto for some reason and you are not aware how your words are being interpreted by other people, I’m among them.
In this forum people try to help each others and if you go through it you will see that a lot of bugs have been found in this forum and later solved by Suunto. A lot of doubts, from users that thought they had a bug, have been clarified as well.
So, if you care to explain which really are your bugs/problems maybe we can help, or realize that is happening to more users and help to have a solution, because I still really do not know which are your issues with the S9 and why you say Suunto want us to buy a S7…

@TELE-HO I believe it is known error about green lights consuming more battery. I’m sure a huge amount of people were asking about that bug since it was issued in 2.9.42, so another brick to the wall would not be enough.
I’m a testing engineer and I know how feedback works.
I also know what is Planned obsolescence. For Apple inc., for example, it is declared almost openly, and probably Suunto did the same to develop new watches from Amer Sports. -
@Алексей-Омельченко
if you use 24/7 HR, yes the power consumption is higher.
But you can switch this off and then it does not effect batterylife anymore.
The same is applicable for activities, you are not forced to use OHR function. -
Please allow watch pages toggling/viewing while in auto pause mode
-
@cosmecosta please, see the answer before. I came here not to make people angry or happy, just to make the officials answer
-
@Алексей-Омельченко
I’m sure the complete answer was not “bla-bla-bla”…
We have seen complete quoted Suunto answers by other users, too. You can do that, too, if you like. -
@TELE-HO I see you don’t want to understand the essence of that bug. Whether you are not a Suunto 9 user or simply are here to troll me, let’s finish the discussion. Good luck!
-
@Алексей-Омельченко
you did not yet clearly state your issue… I interpreted “the green light” as the OHR sensor you’re talking about.
I’m sorry you did not find what you were looking for in here…
I’m an engineer, too. I don’t rely on luck -
@Алексей-Омельченко people asked very loudly to have new Firstbeat metrics, and they got them. Now, using those new metrics makes the battery drains faster (and independent people have done some experiments here, with the increased drain causing a day of battery less on normal usage), but that is not unexpected considering that the hardware is the same but the processing is increased (and probably also the frequency of readings). I, for one, prefer battery over fancy features, and disabled sleep tracking and 24 hours heart rate monitoring.
-
@Алексей-Омельченко Hi, we can’t help you with this tone.
I can understand your frustration but please can we keep it in polite terms?
We only can help you reporting the bug. But please change the tone.

@TELE-HO I do not know him, and I do not want to discuss with him how to be polite… and even try to offend him somehow.
My post is about letting more people know Suunto is making shit on intent.
And I’m not the one to like such kind of replies as “who are you to write here like that, where you’ve been before”. -
@TELE-HO yes, normally they flicker and before the update they did. Now they are always on during those several minutes heart rate is measured. Per day, about 10% of battery volume makes difference.
I cannot disable 24/7 HR and use night heart rate monitoring which is important to me. Just before they issued that bug in 2.9.42 they’d answered me ‘maybe we’ll separate those two modes some time’. Almost a year passed… -
nice conversation, I have just one question and it is not sarcastic, Garmin users have similar problems with support? Would I be more happy now having let say fenix 5x plus? Does anybody have Suunto and Garmin devices and can compare?
-
@isazi thank you for your answer. Now I know people asked about the bug to add and now they are finally satisfied.
-
@tomahawk5000
I can tell you this: what Garmin support?
…my experience is that there was no real support. Maybe some standard email, but nothing compared to Suunto official support. -
@Алексей-Омельченко
ok, I understand you are not happy about the higher batteryconsumption during the day.
For some people 24/7 HR goes hand in hand with sleep tracking. I don’t use either features.
But you are right, it is most appreciated to do more customization on the watch and in your case to separate the function of 24/7 HR from sleep tracking.
I understand the answer from Suunto that they consider your suggestion but it is maybe not the highest priority as it sounds like a “niche” request… usually my requests are also a bit more specific and demanding to the Suunto team
All we can do is wait and meanwhile enjoy the rest of the watch… or in general the sports we do -

Zooming navigation screen in locked mode.
I need to complete this request from our friend silentvoyager…
when a navigation message appears that tells you you are approaching the finish line or you are at the finishline, the lockbutton is actually locked.
It would be helpful (especially for racers) if the unlock function would be active in order to be able to unlock the watch and stop the activity. -
@TELE-HO @Алексей-Омельченко
If the problem is Sleep tracking and 24/7, you can disable 24/7 and still have sleep tracking active without any problem afair
If you want to track heart rate only during sleep, that’s not possible , I agree

@TELE-HO another bug was about ascent. I have asked why G***** and P**** products and even the old Ambit 3 measure ascent (elevation gain) correctly without barometer and Suunto 9 cannot do it. The answer was “buy baro and read the manual, a barometer is needed to measure ascent properly”.
I found the essence of that bug in xml log file, sent them the description and it did not take effect.
Bugs are not considered bugs, old bugs persist, new ones are issued. All the updates are about minor themes such as Suunto Plus or … we fixed wrong date after two months of hard work:))) -

ok, we know that this happened within very short AND during holidays…
this forum is full of discussions about the ascent issues with non barometric watches.
Unfortunately my short answer for ascent questions with non baro watches is identical with what you have just quoted…
From what I know there is a potential to improve this issue, but in the end the fact remains that nothing beats baro.
