      Hi everyone,
today I did an interval training and I have a strange display on Strava. The plan was to warm up, then intervals, then cool down, then a manual lap.

      • autolap was off
      • interval training was set on the watch during warmup (it was 5x4’/1’, to help with the reading)

      Expected behavior:

      • one lap for warmup is displayed (around 15min or so)
      • 10 automatic laps from IT are displayed

      Current behavior:

      • first lap starts with the IT, and is calculated with the right paces from the IT but Strava display it like it started from the beginning of the activity

      • lap 12 is a manual lap, but I just don’t understand lap 11 which would be the manual lap as if no IT was used

      Speculation:

      • There is 2 different counts for automatic laps from intervals and manual laps
      • It may work well on Suunto App but it mess it up with Strava
      • I don’t know about good practive for fit file but if my first speculation is right I don’t find it very logical

there is a fix under way I suppose.

The problem here is that Strava gets the laps as flat while Suunto supports nested laps.

For example it does not matter (for Suunto) if you have intervals , manual , or autolaps.
One lap can contain more laps etc.

But Strava is build on an old model aka needs to have flattened laps. And that is a hard decision to take, as of how to be flattened.

I think runalyze works with flat lap as well. If it’s becoming an issue with all third parties app, fit file should be flattened since currently SA relies on 3rd party apps.
As of how to flatten it, the main question is how to integrate auto-laps, because it seems easy to integrate interval laps to manual laps.

@miniping not quite only this. You can have manual laps that enclose/wrap the interval laps.

It can even get more complicated.

            [autolap[manual[interval]]]

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos Well, I wish a good time for Suunto’s team to either find a nice issue to this or to Strava to update their lap manager 😄

@miniping you will see some nice additions by us. I think regarding Strava we will push a simple flatten.
When a new lap starts, previous ends 😞 Just dont use autolaps with manual laps + intervals if you want to get something out of strava then .

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos I guess that until Strava updates its side, it’s the most sensible way to deal wit this issue !
                  Thanks for the following !
