Important news concerning our digital services

@RiphRaph I’d like to reiterate that the only thing that has been confirmed is the stop of Movescount, at the soonest in 1.5 years. The option of “No replacement at all/ replacement only by SA” has not been communicated on by Suunto. And if you look at the number of votes the request for a web access got in this forum, we can certainly think Suunto will take this in consideration, based on the fact the priorities given by this forum to the development of SA have been listened to so far.
I might add, if your need is to access your data via a web platfrom, SA syncs with several services with a web access that will allow you to do that for free. I don’t want to trigger a new series of posts, I’m not saying the free version of TP/Endomondo/Strava has similar features than Movescount web, but it could be a valid alternative to explore your data on a big screen while we have more news from Suunto about a possible “SA-web” platform - that’s now the most voted feature in this forum and by far. -

@Yannis-Belouris I am kinda confused. There is that announcement that MC will go off.
What stops you to “fight” for new features especially this time for the new platform, along with the affected users ( I am assuming that perhaps you where not due to your involvement with the forum/Sa app dont get me wrong)Why I need to “fight” for something that I already have? I do not understand why customers must say Sunnto what to do. I mean, I can ask for new features not ask for the ones that I already have.
In my opinion MC needs a face lift or complete renovation, I can imagine that for whatever reason Suunto have to change servers/databases to another platform. Ok, do it but implement what you have in the new one and then ask for new things to grow.
What’s the point of asking what you want but saying I’m going to remove all this? People are going to ask you to keep what you have, aren’t they?
I do not analyze all my workouts but some of them I do, depending if it’s a race, a new territory or I felt something during the race or ride. When I do this analysis I want to do it properly. Try to find your workout values regarding the map in the phone screen, is not easy for anybody.
Even my simple bike computer has a PC/MAC app for proper workout analysis. -

You must have been reading some different announcement, because the one at top of this thread is about the replacement of Movescount with the Suunto App.

Any feedback on the Suunto App would not affect their decision to discontinue the different web-based platform.
You just have to accept the facts. There are no plans to merge Movescount.com features with Sports Tracker web site or enhance Suunto App to offer full feature parity with Movescount.
The decision has been made well before the actual announcement, all web development stopped about one year ago, and new products do not support Movescount anymore.
There is really no point in speculating if or when these plans might be reversed. This just won’t happen.

@DmitryKo sorry man, but no one here can guarantee that there will not be a web access for the Suunto app. You can read again and again the communication from Suunto, this is not what it says…
I accept the fact that movescount.com will be shut down. Nothing more, nothing less! Speculating would be telling that I know the roadmap of Suunto for the next 1.5 years and that I know it doesn’t include a web access for the Sunnto app. -
@DmitryKo No one here knows what Suunto is planning but I do know they are listening. Suunto would not put the effort out to listen if their course was set in stone. I remember issues with Ambit 1 when the 2 came out, essentially not adding functionality that was possible. Suunto eventually added it due to customer demand. So I think Ray is speaking honestly. Moveslink will remain and perhaps non BLE watches could download fit files. This will not solve the issue of screen customization, routes, etc but would allow the watches to be useable.

I really hope they are listening, because there are people that do not have iOS or Android devices … and that means in the current plans no support at all !

@RigoS I can re-assure you that this days my fingers are on fire. I have personally created reports from all I am collecting here. Actually, I only run 2 times this week due to lack of time. Please people don’t attack this comment as well, I feel your pain and I am here to help
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos
Thank you. for the support -
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos You should run even more these days Running don’t prevent thinking. On the contrary! Tks
-
@pescacebesforum I know but this whole situation, has affected me as well. In so many ways (from opening the forum for Suunto app, to not being able to help everybody to seeing all this happen and feeling for everyo ne)

why it’s not ok to have an workaround to get older watches via cable/suuntolink send their workoutdata to the SA
Good question.
Actually even the Suunto App does not have to require Bluetooth connection for data upload - it should be perfectly possible to directly connect Ambit/Spartan watches to the USB port on the phone with the 4-pin charging cable.
There is the ‘Ambit Connect’ Android app as you mentioned in another thread, thar works with the charging cable and supports direct upload to Strava:
Also many Android devices have built-in ANT/ANT+ tranceivers, so they should be directly compatible with SuuntoANT protocol watches.
But then again, I have absolutely no confidence in Amer Sport to properly implement any of the above.
-
@Yannis-Belouris I couldn’t agree more with this point. It is the trend of dumbing down everything and dropping features that worries me the most. I have zero confidence that the new platform will offer features of MC that I care about.

You may believe whatever you want. Any yet-unconfirmed and purely speculative ‘web access for Suunto App’ would be a different incompatible platform that is not a direct immediate replacement for Movescount.

Info from Suunto Support (18.01.2019):
“We do not have plans currently to develop a web service connected to Suunto app. The app is being built to deliver key functionality from the mobile phone, and we will work with partner services and communities to provide additional (including web-based) value.”They did not reply to my specific questions relating to support of Ambit 3 Peak. Just this general answer. However it implies that there will be no web access to Suunto App.
-
First,
I would like to acknowledge that I understand and support the decision to update the mobile app. However, I do not advise eliminating the web-based service for that I, and other owners of older devices, rely on to transfer data and software updates to/from the device. As several other users point out, this effectively renders our otherwise functional (and expensive) watches obsolete. If Suunto wishes to retain me as a customer, I require one of the following:
-withdrawal of the decision to completely eliminate web-based support for older devices
-Replacement of a non-supported device with the newer equivalent free of charge prior to the full transition to the Suunto app; in my case, this would probably be the Ambit 3 in exchange for the Ambit 2.While I like my Ambit 2, and can attest to its quality and durability after almost 7 years, I am, frankly, tired of the “Apple Model” of needlessly rendering good hardware useless with lazy, greedy software decisions. Therefore, should Suunto opt to ignore the concerns of older device owners, I will be replacing my Ambit 2 with a Garmin.
-
@estevez I got this reply today 18th Jan:
"Dear Mark Smith,
Thank you for reaching out to us and letting us know how feel about the transition.
The experience of each member of the Suunto community is important to us, and particularly in the time of change and transition. We understand and appreciate your feedback and we are looking into the best solutions for all products owners to join us in our new service. We are committed to keeping you informed of what these solutions will be via email and on suunto.com, so stay tuned.
For now, you can continue to enjoy your Ambit watch for at least the next year and half as you have been.
Should you have further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Sincerely,
Charm
Suunto Customer Support Team"… hardly making me feel like they are planning to address the fact they are bricking my watch next year.

This is not o.k. from you. We can not download our recordings from AMBIT2 and can not ose this any more. I have paif 300 EUR for this watch and now throw it away? No!!
Make movesscount an open user forum or program a software with which we can download our stuff and use other forum to save our moves. Just closing movescount and giving ambit2 users some extra euros is not a solution. I have learned now how to use my ambit2 and i am really happy with this watch. Do not leave us alone, this is unfair!!! -
@macmonroe I don’t own an Ambit or Ambit 2, but I find this aspect of it troubling as well. The quality and robustness of the physical components of a watch cease to be much of a selling point when the company’s actions suggest that their idea of “Built to Last” is “We’ll brick it for you after seven years or so”.
That they’re apparently still selling the condemned models doesn’t help either. Even if users generate enough of an outcry to change the company’s mind, just TRYING to pull a stunt like this is an appallingly bad message to be giving your customers.
