HR Chest strap disconnected during activity
-
Today I experienced strange behavior with Suunto Race and my hr strap (Decathlon). I was riding my bike with MTB sport mode and it went perfect until I left my bike by the road and walked some 30-40 meters away to take a picture. I guess that watch lost connection with the strap at that moment and it never reconneced when I got back.
Is this normal behavior of the watch? I didn’t want to stop the activity so I continued riding. When the activity ended I sent logs to suunto and then I tried starting new activity and chest strap connected immediately.
To me this looks like a bug. Anybody else experienced this?

@Prenj this should be fixed with the new firmware, the one Race has not received yet, but I heard mixed results. I have had no issues recently with a Vertical 2, but different BLE devices manage connection differently, so not that easy to rule it out completely.

I reported this problem over and over again, starting about half a year ago.
Only recently Suunto support sent the bug report to the developers and they sent it to the bluetooth developers.
So far Suunto support cannot even tell if it is software or hardware related (although I’m convinced it’s software related, since the problem started right after Suunto did a complete rework of the bluetooth stack in the firmware released half a year ago.
I again sent logs today and asked for an update. But I didn’t get any update last time, so I don’t expect it’s different this time.

@elbee I reported the problem internally to Suunto on the 14th of April, and the fix to this issue was assigned to Q2 release (the one only Race 2 and Vertical 2 got so far). I (and others) also reported it before Q1 release, but the timing was not good, the reports were for the production firmware and the developing firmware was too far ahead for the bug to be acknowledged at the time.

Great!
Do have a couple of questions.
Why does suunto support first act like they never heard about the issue and then tried to blame it on a hardware issue?
Why doesn’t suunto support report to me that the cause is found and fix (while they promised to keep me up to date). Only last Wednesday I got a mail and apparently suunto support have no knowledge about what you said.
Why doesn’t the release notes mention anything about a fix for the lost bluetooth connections?
Who says that the upcoming race s firmware have the same bug fixes?

@elbee those questions are between you and Suunto, not me, and I cannot answer them for either you or Suunto. I only try to help people here on the forum, with the VERY LITTLE time I have available nowadays, and the little knowledge I can share without getting into troubles.

I understand. I’m not trying to blame someone personally and I appreciate the time you spent here on the forum.
I sent a bugreport today, see what response I get. I weekly send a bugreport report after every connection lost. Probably irritating for suunto support, but so is this bug for me.

@elbee you are correct in what you are doing, if you have issues you should contact support. On this forum there are a few Suunto employees, and a bunch of people that help with external field testing, but it is still a community forum. Reporting here is mostly useful to see if someone else has the same issue, or a workaround.

This issue is still present after the latest update – nothing has changed in over half a year. Vertical 2
