VO2 Max now appearing for non-running activities?
-
I’m not a runner but I’m now seeing a VO2 score in the App:

The data seems to becoming from three walking activities (all in my local area and nothing special) I’ve recorded in the last week. The App still says that only running activities contribute ‘currently’ but I assume it’s being rolled out more widely to other activity types? I’m using a Vertical 2 with the latest software update and only walks since the recent update seem to be contributing. Anyone else spotted this/knows more info?

OK thanks for the info! I’ve not seen it before and assumed it had sneaked in as part of the latest software update but it must have just been coincidence!

Nope, it’s not too short. I get VO2max every time I go for an easy walk with my little old dog. 20-30 minutes does it.
It’s probably due to certain section of your exercise having either bad GPS data and/or bad HR data. At least this is the official explanation. I asked Suunto support to give the exact requirements for the measurement to appear but the answer I got was different from what the testers here in this forum were telling. I remember there was supposed to be certain HR zone for certain amount of time, but I don’t buy it. My HR is very low when I am strolling around with the old girl. I even stop for long periods when the dog finds an interesting smell-o-gram.
This has been discussed a lot in the past. For some people the VO2max doesn’t appear at all. My V1 held it back some 18 months and suddenly it started appearing after every single walk. Suunto said they tweaked the SW to “make it easier” to get the result, but still some people just never see it.
There’s a Suunto+ app called Cooper Test, which also measures VO2max. I think the app measures it independently and does not rely on the built-in algorithm.
