App-Vertical2 sync issues

For the past two fw updates, I have been having issues with syncing my V2 watch with my android phone(s) – yes, I tried with multiple phones from scratch etc.
I narrowed the issue down to locking the screen. Sync functions OK, no issues at all. As soon as I lock the screen, the sync will not work once. Whether I unlock it afterwards or not. I cannot remove the watch and re-pair it. The watch is discovered, but pairing always times out without every getting to the passcode phase. I tried clearing app’s cache, I tried restarting the phone. I tried restarting the watch too.
The only process I found workable is to forget the V2 device from the app, restart the watch, clear the app’s cache (not sure this is needed) and restart the phone (in that order). Then re-pair the watch with the phone – works as advertised at this point. Again, sync works until I lock the screen. Then we’re back to the beginning.
I searched the forum but couldn’t find much on app sync issues. Anyone else having these problems? Can someone spot a possible user error on my part? Anything I can try or hand over logs? Happy to debug.

jakubPS: I remember that there was an issue with the screen lock right after the Vertical2’s release. It just couldn’t be unlocked or something. But this is different. I can unlock alright, it just seems to break the sync.
