Rotating crown has quit working mid-run but started working again after finishing the run

A new issue that I’ve never seen before. The crown stopped having any effect on the map zoom level or elevation profile. I don’t know if it was related or not, but that happened shortly after I went off-route and was tweaking the map (zooming and panning) trying to find a way around a closed trail.
The issue persisted until I finished the run, and once I’ve saved the activity the crown resumed working. That tells me that the issue was caused by software rather than hardware.
Has anyone ever experienced this issue?
